Evening guys, just another newbie question ... Will we need spring compressors/clamps to remove the top mounts ? Does the split nut on top hold the spring tention ? or is it just a case of taking the strut out and popping the mount off ?
Sorry for the newbieness

i did my brothers standard coupe on the weekend. i guess you could get away without them as they weren't under much pressure. however its extremely dangerous in my opinion i watched some half wit dismantling some cheap coil overs guess wh
at the end result was. stitches in an eyebrow. you may struggle to push the cap down enough to start the castle out off.
my advice go to gsf buy the castle nut tools and spring compressor be about 30 quid and Will save the frustration.

this means you never saw an flying spring throw left hand wing and 2cm from your head. It was another car though.
With some lowering springs you can replace without spring compressors, and yes you can tie the springs down with the car weight on and then jack it up, I would not advise it though,
All done thismorning, didnt have any compressors to begin with so we tried tyng a shackle and strap through it in a vice and pulling it with a 1 ton mini digger... the vice just kepy turning so we went on the scrounge around the industrial unit ... found a set of compressors from a cement truck company of all places soo got there in the end
However we didnt need compressors to ge the mounts off ... they just fell off .. and left the bearing underneathe the castle nut ..
In the process of all this whilst changing a side light i managed to drop my offside headlamp and shattered the lense into 7-8 pieces so if anyone has one please let me know I have a spare but it was the original i took off as it had a small crack in it.
On another note i tested the temp sender once when the car was cold, and again when it was at running temperature(after turning it off) ... dont really know what any of the resistance values mean soo any heads up would be appreciated.. Ill post them up in my main "Coupe Thread".
Thanks again guys
