Correct powersteering fluid level? beep on dash

    Hi all.

My RS2 has been doing great since we found my disconnected vacuum hose to the MAP.
I have learnt the car properly through different roads and have mastered it in the rain- bags of fun

Only glitch I have is an intermittent beep from the dash which I suspect has something to do with the powersteering reservoir: whenever the car is parked for a few days ( its only driven on a saturday) I have a small puddle of fluid on the garage floor.

After replacing clamps everything was well for a while ( I had beeping initially due to LOW fluid level).

I now routinely check oil, coolant, powersteering fluid and brake fluid levels EVERY time before I fire her up.

So my reservoir is full, but I seem to think its OVERFULL if thats possible- it beeps despite there being fluid far higher than the upper line on the tank.
I dont see a MIN or MAX so Im a bit unclear on the correct level.

I know that the dipstick on the lid gives an indication, but It too doesnt have markings.

Possible faulty sensor as the fluid did leak into it at one stage- what should I use to clean the sensor?

Sorry for the long post and thanks in advance.

That beep can also be caused by brake fluid level.

I have had that in the past but like I said i check all the levels before I start her up.
Nonetheless it is a wet Saturday here and I have been getting upto mischief

Do our cars have brake pad wear / brake disc wear sensors? In that case could this be the beep?

My discs are shot. Get a humming noise upfront when i brake hard

You need to always check the power steering fluid level with the wheels straight ahead. There are max min marks on the outside but the reservoir does get dark and dirty with age.

My reservoir is like brand new but I'm certain there's no max min text. There are however 2 indented line but like I say they appear to be simple structural lines in the mould.

advise on the possibility of brake wear sensors

for the help and havea super weekend.

Doesn't it give you an Icon on the Autocheck screen?

You're right, there is no max min text, just lines approx 1 cm long, my mistake. The min line is half way up the bottle and the max is approx. 2/3rds up.

The brake fluid level warning switch and the hydraulic fluid level warning switch are wired together so either of them will give the same warning on Autocheck. On my car, the brake fluid warning level switch has always given spurious alarms so I've left it disconnected.

I can't comment on RS2 wear sensors as I don't have an RS2 but the S2 doesn't have wear sensors.

I have had fluid warnings in the past from the hydraulic fluid caused by a possible bad connection in the wiring at the top of the bottle. You could have the right level in the hydraulic bottle but still a warning. Try taking the top off the bottle and playing the the wires, this MAY help.

                Cheers,

Sorry for the missing words and broken text. Still getting used to this Galaxy S4 lol.
Thanks again for all the help chaps. Is this1cm line on the front or left of the tank?
I'm taking her out for a spin now. Beep beep beep all the way

If you're losing fluid, the warning is more likely a hydraulic pressure fault than a level problem.

Thanks for that Mike. This is starting to make sense now. For what it's worth, I might add, it beeps constantly when driving but is definitely triggered when I boost hard. Whether this has anything to do with the fact that the fluid dances around upon boosting or just coincidental I really don't know.

I will try that tomorrow morning. Thank you so much for the support guys.

If you get a beep when boosting I'd suspect the brake fluid level switch, not the hydraulic one. Unplug the connector on the side of the brake fluid reservoir and then go for another run

The level marks on the hydraulic fluid reservoir are on the side facing the engine.
