      Two things.
The first is that I recall on mine that somebody had rerouted the pipe from the res and it was getting pinched by the steering when on full lock!
Secondly its impossible to adequately assess the condition of the bomb without a pressure gauge!
The 20-30 pump till hard is really a myth. I think it arises from the advice in the workshop manual which is intended to prevent you getting a hydraulic fluid shower when disconnecting the circuit rather than a diagnostic aid.
The bomb's purpose is to provide hydraulic assistance of perhaps several applications of the brake if the engine dies. Not 20-30! If you watch with a pressure gauge there are big drops in the pressure, with each application of the brakes until it is exhausted and it reaches the charge pressure of the sphere. On a dead bomb each application drops it by a much smaller amount which accounts for the numerous applications. There is also the difference in the relative charge pressure between a new bomb and the minium charge pressure of an old one to factor in as it takes fewer applications to reach the charge pressure of @80bar than the minium of 30bar!
So my theory is that 20-30 application indicates a dead bomb and that can only be confirmed with a gauge rather than your foot.

Ill.drop pete an email and see where i stand.
I know 1 thing id love to do away with the system entirely.

I have emailed pete. He has suggested i buy another and the other be returned for a warranty assessment.
I can only think the check valve is faulty as discussed. Why else would the level rise when the car is stood in the garage.? Pete claims he has not known one go faulty.

Hold on, you have to buy another one to return it?

Usual form with parts suppliers if you ask me. I think pete belives the fault lies elsewhere.
Id love to bin the lot personally.

I'm sure he does. Regardless, as a consumer you have a right to return it for refund or exchange without being forced to buy another one

I need to check when i bought it but reckon its outside 12 months easily. I said that if it does it again its going back. Ill discuss it further then. I may consider speaking to febi direct.

If it's any use to you I have a good spare bomb you could borrow, I purchased another spare after replacing mine a couple of months ago as it's something I like to have in stock.

I haven't seen the warning since changing it and I can leave the car standing for two weeks and not get it.

                            No problem.

It's identical to the one on my 1990 3B, though it came off a V6, there are two different types so I'll post a pic of it up when I can get my camera to connect to my lap-top, it should be right.
