Yeah, I know what you mean about conflicting opinions, some folks say they found no difference with solid alloy bushes, some hate them. My feeling is there needs to be a little give somewhere in a road car's chassis to help deal with uneven road surfaces etc. I'm hopping the poly bushes have enough give in them soak up some of this, I'm dam sure the alloy one's don't.
I have a feeling that these poly bushes might be what i am looking for.Slightly better handling in the handling stakes but compliant enough to still provide OEM levels of refinement. I am with you on your feelings towards alloy bushes....best left to track cars. Here's a quote from Fat Audi (Steve) when he replied to me about bushes.

"I was like you. I am so glad I went poly everywhere. The car retains all its compliance, nvh are unaffected and the car handles sooo much better. Don't put the rubber ones back in.

    It won't affect originality IMO....

    Cheers

    Steve"

Steve is definitely swaying me.I guess i am waiting for you to fit yours Kit to see what you think??

It was Steve's comments that helped make my mind up as well mate, he like's his S2 original and very tidy so if the poly mounts weren't up to scratch he'd say so.

Hopefully I'll have mine next week and will be able to find out for myself

They arrived today so that's a pretty quick turn around, to touch they feel like they should work a treat, just a little give and they bounce when dropped.

I'm going to try and get up early tomorrow, put the car over the pit and whack them on, give's me a good excuse to use my car for work.

Got up an hour and half early this morning and whacked the old girl over the pit and supported her on axle stands. I loosened the four sub-frame bolts three turns before removing the rear two completely, the alloy mounts fell out after a light tap with a hammer, I cleaned the holes in the frame with a wire brush on a drill then lubricating them with the grease provided. Popped the poly mounts in which was a lot easier than I expected before refitting the bolts loosely and repeating the procedure on the front two. I tighten the bolts up to about 20 NM to make sure the mounts seated properly, then backed them all off half a turn before torquing them up in the correct sequence.

Took me half an hour as I have pit and didn't have to deal with removing stock mounts.

I'm really pleased I went for them, the car feels much smoother and most importantly the skittishness at high speed on uneven surfaces has gone at last. Obviously the car would now benefit from having the alignment done but that will have to wait until after I've changed the rear sub-frame mounts and steering rack.

Got another set for the back on the way!

I guess if your that happy about it these must be much better than standard bushes and as we already know alloy ones I am looking forward to your report when you have had a longer test drive like one of those when you go walkabout metaphorically speaking through the beautiful Welsh mountains in your S2 steed. And yes i will be up there soon just couldn't make it being so busy here with one thing or another.

                    haha
I have thought about using solid bushes as you effectively turn the subframe into a giant chassis brace, so I'd be interested to know if it feels any different when you are pushing it hard.

Fitted the rears yesterday morning before work, took even less time as I learnt a couple of little wrinkles to make installation easier when I did the front's. The ride is even better again now and the fidgety feeling at high speed has gone completely even though I can tell the alignment isn't quite right.

I'll have my ABY steering back from Will soon, he's rebuilt and got it tested for a very reasonable amount of money which is much appreciated. Once I get that fitted (no doubt after chucking some tools about and swearing) I'll get the car's geometry done again, going to try adding another 30 minutes of negative camber to the back wheels as we could only get a degree each side when I had it set up last time as we didn't want to start messing with ball joints.

I wouldn't hesitate in recommending these mounts.

Their two piece like the alloy items so I should be able to fit them without too much bother and certainly without fully dropping the frames, will whack them on as soon as they arrive and report back.

Good to hear this! I have a set of super flex subframe mounts on order for the front. I wish they did a rear set - I guess that's one benefit to being a Coupe owner...

I'm going to leave OEM on the rear for now, it seems pretty solid and ultimately I think I'm going to poly the rear diff and go with the 034 uprated rears.

Like you I feel that my car needs a bit of damping in the chassis, from the experiences I've gathered it's best to tighten up suspension and and drivetrain so the subframe takes more abuse, but have subframe mounts that absorb some of it, for a daily/road car. You get the best handling vs NVH balance with that setup.

Yeah, you need a bit of give somewhere with a road car, well you do if yo want to enjoy driving it everywhere. My set up is now poly subframe/wishbone/ARB bushes, stock non aircon springs/top mounts, Bilstein B4 stock replacement gas shocks , 17's with either 215 or 225 45 tyres. ARB's are RS2 front and Whiteline rear set to hard, engine/gearbox mounts are good stock replacements just got a poly snub mount which has helped no end with the drive line shunt.
