    Audi S2 Shock Absober Upgrade

    AUDI S2 SHOCK ABSORBER UPGRADE:

CAN ANY ONE RECOMMEND THE CORRECT SET UP TO UPGRADE THE STANDARD SHOCKS AS FACTORY FITTED TO THE AUDI S2 1994 MANUFACTURE.

Both BILSTEIN & KONI have been contacted and neither can confirm the original Bump Compression and Rebound specifications as factory fitted to the AUDI S2 coupe.
They recommend replacement shocks and setups however its impossible to know if they are identical replacement shocks to the same specifications or firmer upgrades as insufficient data is provided.

    BILSTEIN recommends the following models:

    B6 SPORT ( with threaded ring M50 X 1.5 )
    P30-3005 (FRONT) BUMP 980N REBOUND 2655N
    P36-3017(REAR) BUMP 470N REBOUND 1965N

    B6 SPORT ( with threaded ring M55 X 1.5)
PE-3086( FRONT) BUMP ---- REBOUND ---- ( NO FIGURES PROVIDED)
    P36-3017(REAR) BUMP 470N REBOUND 1965N

    B8 SPRINT ( with threaded ring M50 X 1.5)
    P30-3006 (FRONT) BUMP 980N REBOUND 2655N
    P36-3058(REAR) BUMP 470N REBOUND 1965N

As one can see the above front and rear figures are the same for all three upgrades except for the P36-3086 figures which are not provided.

    KONI QUOTE:

    86-2086 spd 2 (FRONT) COMPRESSION 800N REBOUND 1200N
    86-2433 SPORT ( REAR) COMPRESSION 550N REBOUND 1200N

The KONI figures are less than the BILSTEINS.

To add futher to this some are adjustable and repairable, But which and to what specification the information is vague.

The questions that I would like to confirm with both KONI & BILSTEIN are as follows however they are unable to confirm.

The following questions are as follows:

    1. Can KONI or BILSTEIN quote the original factory shock absorber figures for the Audi S2 shocks so that one can compare what stage to upgrade to.

    2. Do both KONI or BILSTEIN provide externally ajustable shocks both for the front and rear set ups as have been provided on PORSCHE 944 TURBO production years 1989 onwards with the M30 suspension code number.

3.What else requires upgrading to improve the Suspension all round.

If anyone can clarify this Research and Development problem it would be greatly appreciated.

With the Konis I have now (and the ones that are en route) you have to drop them out to adjust them. I cannot comment on the Bilsteins.

Other upgrades would be bushes, topmounts, arb's, droplinks etc etc...

Get a H&R cup KIt for your s2. Got this on myself and it works super, a bit harsh on bumpy roads. But the car handles really well.
You can get it for 700 euro at www.reinekeshop.de

        Welcome to the forum Richard.....

If you do a search thru this section there are some longer discussed threads where people have quoted the part numbers people have preferred.

From what i recall the Bilstein shocks seem to get a bigger thumbs up from people that have tried both and the part numbers are quoted here somewhere... and i think it was Jonas that has previously quoted them

The Bilsteins are significantly firmer than the Koni's but have no adjustment. The Konis have rebound adjustment. Koni only offer external adjustment on the rear for the S2 Avant. Both Koni and Bilstein are serviceable dampers.

The Bilsteins offer better handling on smooth roads, whereas the Konis are a better all rounder. A quick flick through this part of the forum will reveal what are the best upgrades.

Welcome to the forum, wow what a first post...

Out of interest how much am I looking at if I wanted to replace all the bushes and top mounts on my coupe.

            Anyone recommend decent upgrades?

Bilsteinsand H&R's if you want/need to change the springs too. Been on mine for 18 months and i'm well pleased with them.

As mentioned elsewhere, i'd replace all that you can for suspension (drop links, sub mounts, wishbone bushes, top mounts, ball joints etc) Each one of those will remove slack and give a more responsive feel.

Sad that there are no data available for the 3086 fronts as all s2 coupes have the M55 version front shocks. All other but s2 coupes have the M50.

Konis tend to be adjustable off car and afaik the bilsteins do not have the possibility of adjustment.

H&R cup kit is on its way for me.

Thanks for sharing those specs. Didn't realise they were publicly available.

And you want to buy it from UK?

If not, then I may suggest www.reifenversand.com as I ordered mine there and it was a) cheap b) fast delivery c) affordable shipping less than 30 euros d) credit card payment possibility

No other connection, I'm just a satisfied customer. I previously ordered tyres from there and now the cup kit. It came in less than 2 weeks eventhough their online shop said it's out of stock!

I've got the Koni dampers/ H&R springs setup on my car and frankly it's brilliant. A bit firm on shoddy roads, but nicely damped and really solid. I'd recommend it to anyone.

I bought yellow konis for my B4 S2 Sedan, they are just like RS2 shocks. I had to sell it before I out it on, Sold it to friend who uses it in a RS2. Very very pleased. They were rebound adjustables with 'clicks' behind and 'turns' in front. front had to be removed to be seted up.
