  • Leaking PS pump.

I know it'll have been mentioned before but......
That plastic screw in plug on the pump, mines leaking from here. I haven't touched it yet, but is it likely to just unscrew to reveal an o-ring that I can just replace then refit and it'll live happily ever after?!
    Cheers,
    John.

Leaking X-plug on the top of the Power Steering/Power Brake Pump

That X-plug is metal not plastic:

"The X-plug has an O-ring which eventually gets eaten by the PS/PB Pentosin fluid in the plug. You can try tightening it to stop the leak but that might not work.

Here is the pump in its native habitat, showing the X-plug.

If you decide to replace the X-plug you need to replace it with a dealer-only part (aftermarket O-rings might not last long in the Pentosin). To remove and tighten the X-plug you will need a drag link socket. The new X-plug and O-ring are as shown here:

          Example Drag link socket:

Might need the corners filed off to fit down into the X-plug

Thanks all for that, I thought it looked plastic!

I'll just get new one from TPS (thanks for the offer Mike)

Was looking at the PS rebuild sticky thread.....I'm assuming there's a spring behind the plug??

                Have ordered from TPS

Who uses what instead of a drag-link socket?!

I have removed my pump to get it rebuilt in the hydraulic shop

in the end i had to get another one as the housing had a hairline crack in the housing, which was found out only after it was rebuilt. So it is also a possibility
