    1BE suspension shock replacement

    Hi guys,
Planning on fitting new rear shock absorbers and mounts at some point after new years. As I have 1BE sports suspension, do they have any /special/ shocks or any gas pressure shocks for quattro will do?

Asking because my brother has A80 with sport suspension and his rear shock piston was shorter.

Looking at orange KONI at the moment, as price seem acceptable. Any input welcomed

    Thanks

As you have IBE sports suspension Janis you need Gas pressurised shocks, just make sure they are for the S4/S6.If your lowering you'll need gas pressurised shocks with a shorter piston travel.I take it the Koni orange are cheaper than the yellow ones?

Thanks Mark. I'd like to lower her possibly in the future. Orange is £280 a set, while Yellow goes for £640 a set. As much us I'd like those, can't justify them for a car that's doesn't get tracked.

Can't find Sachs PN either, and Bilstein, again is too expensive.

Why you swapping them? I'd have to get them set up right?

There's nothing wrong with my Koni sports shocks,i'm swapping them because i bought bought new Bilstein for a ever so slightly softer ride around town at least thats my thinking what i'm hopping for.

I'm just afraid that yellow will be too harsh. I want to swap in new shocks and mounts because car doesn't seem to upsorb any bumps as well, if I have full car of people it'll quite down.

The OE PNs give you two choices:

4A9513031D = gas-filled rear shock for the AAN and ABH (V8) avants

4A0513031G = gas-filled shock absorber for AAN powered vehicles with sports-type running gear.

No specific mention of sports suspension *AND* avant **AND** AAN.

BUT there is mention of colour coding so presumably you can figure out the correct part using the colour code.

I know it's all money, and if it's not available, it's not available, but having had the Bilstein's on the UrS6 saloon with H&R springs 29800 for a while now, the longer the time goes on, the more I'm pleased with the them / the combination of the two.

Everyone is on some sort of a budget, but buying the 'cheaper' brand / shock is not always the best way forward in the end.

A case of 'measure twice and cut once'.

With tyres and springs / shocks you get what you pay for. Every bump, pothole, raised manhole, corner and roundabout, you'll be rewarded with decent kit on the car.

More so when you factor in the grief and hassle of changing springs and shocks separately / a couple of times, and then throw the cost and hassle of tracking in on top of your expenditure, and it can sometimes make sense to buy the 'best' / 'dearer' stuff from the outset.

                            Just sayin............

Best wishes for better luck in 2016 given some of the grief you've encountered to date.

You took the words right out of my mouth Macspring.

I'll go one step further and say it is the cheapest option to go for the best where shocks and tyres are concerned assuming you've ruled out the coillover route i.e. Bilstine B6 or the Konis sports shocks. It works out cheaper because you went for quality and because of that you won't have the niggling doubts in your mind that you have bought substandard because psychologically you know your running around on the cheaper stuff, plus will only have done the job once . The next double whammy your going to experience is you will struggle to sell on your cheaper shocks as no body desires them. If you can't afford it right now save up a little longer. Buy the best stuff, you know it makes sense.
