Coilover helper springs, Can anyone advise on lbs they should be, I have a set of H&R Coilovers for my RS2, I am rebuilding and am thinking of using 40lbs 3".... Helper springs
The helper spring is only there to stop spring float at full droop. I presume it had them before? I would measure the closed length of the current helper and copy that. H&R do a full list of helpers something around 30/40/50nmm would be fine I don't know what this is in old money
I have a set of hyperco helper springs for my VAP coilivers, not installed yet but they are pretty soft and as mentioned, they are (AFAIK) just there to keep things from bouncing around and misaligning when the suspension is unloaded.
Don't forget to get the spacers.
I almost went with new springs alone given the overall cost of helper/spacers, but I have 5 sets of springs in various rates that I would like to keep as options, so I went with helper/spacer.
No report yet on their use; still in the box for a few more weeks.
My theory is that the stiffer main springs you have the stiffer helper you need. As really stiff springs doesn't compress much, then a stiff helper spring helps to keep the tyres on the ground in hard cornering or jumps. But with soft mains springs you can use those really thin helpers as the main spring is compressed quite much.
