Thanks guys!!
So what exactly am i missing then, i thought it was another one of them plastic bits etc but from the looks of it, i cant be.
As you can see in Martins pic, the thread on the stud starts after where the bracket is, so something has to space it up, looks like maybe just a few big washers will sort it....
I'll try that i think and see if it sorts it, as the free play on that end of the bracket makes getting reverse awkward and the whole feel of the gear stick is very sloppy.Ant

Ahhhh, i see what you mean now....
I thought that the small plastic bit etc was needed on both sides, but maybe it isnt.

Altho from Fourrings pics, im still going to be missing the rubber looking part between the bracket and the washer.
Martin, on yours, as its not in the car, on that stud, have you got the plastic part and rubber part on the inside and nothing for the outer?
Im starting to wonder if i just put it back together wrong and that plastic part goes on the inside, but the rubber part goes on the outside to space up to that washer?Ant

Here are the parts from the linkage. You need two of the bushes and two of the rubber seals. Part number for the seal is 8A0 711 213. There isn't a part number on the plastic bush.Attached Files91 Modded 3B

There should be a bush and rubber on both sides. The parts on ETKA are likely to be the nut and washer that retains them on the stud...Attached Files91 Modded 3B

There is a part described as a 'spacer bush' 8A0 711 217 in ETKA. This appears to be a sub-part of the plate that attaches to the top of the gearbox 8A0 711 781. I'd guess this is the part we need and it's marked as 'as required use'
Does this mean it can be purchased as a single item??91 Modded 3B

The spacer bush ive already ordered and got, its like a long washer really, and isnt of any help, funny thing is, i couldnt see where it went when i had it anyway LOL.
As you say steve, those plastic bits must be used on more than one linkage, just a case of finding one to have a look tho.
Without it firmly in place on both sides it has play which gives a very sloppy feel to the gear stick and depending on what side you put it will depend on which gears are awkward to get..... put it on the inside and it makes reverse awkward, put it on the outside and it makes 5th and 6th awkward.
I think the 2 bits ive got are just gonna be the washer and nut.
Need to find some more audi 80's and look at the linkages!!!Ant
