Dont know the OEM oils but i am going to use the Castrol TAF-X for the Gearbox-centerdiff and the SAF-XJ for the rear diff!

I was looking into the same thing earlier today and found the following info:

      Gearbox Oil GL-4 SAE 75w90 - 2.7 Litres (RS2 - 2.3 Litres)

      Castrol TAF-X
      Millers CRX 75w90
      Mobile VS2000

      Rear Diff Oil GL-5 SAE 90 - 1.3 Litres

      Castrol SAF-XJ
Millers CRX 75w90 (same as gear box oil)
      Mobile SHL 75w90

BTDT's said to have replacement drain plugs an filler plugs on hand. To fill gearbox to 7mm below filler plug.

            Hi,
Replaced my transmission oils recently and used Red-Line MT90 GL4 for the gearbox
and Red-Line 75W-90 GL5 for the rear diff.
Great oils and they are seperate GL4 & GL5 specs for each purpose.

I've heard good things about Castrol TAF-X as well.

I think you MUst use 75-90 in the gearbox and at least 90 in the rear Diff!

One point of warning, the filler/drain plugs can corrode into the housings. Please make sure you can remove the FILLER plug first before attempting to remove the drain.

TAF-X isn't as good Millers, much closer to the genuine audi oil in fact. Millers is a genuine 75/90 and from cold can give a slightly heavier change, you can also use it in the rear diff which is what i did on my old coupe.

That sounds like other issues mate... reverse grinding is usually the signs of a clutch issue, ive always found reverse is the first to get problems.

I have a small question on this, is the rear diff oil amount the same for a 3B Coupe? I found one link to Castrol's website saying the rear diff amount was 1 litre, but I've found the most common answer is 1,5 litres, but everyone who has claimed this amount has an Avant (and they have a different rear diff). I need to know exact amount, because I have to fill from the drainplug, as the filler plug is not going anywhere. I thought the amount of oil I drained from the diff was very little, more like 0,6 litres or something.

                          //Cheers

It was like a year since he posted that Jay.

I still want an answer for my question though.
