    New Clutch Yesterday

Got that sorted out on my S6, boy what a difference gone is the heavy moaning (release bearing totally shot) to be replaced with a light joy to use clutch that's even improved the gearchange too. Only minor concern is that when i back out of the drive (it's pretty steep) i get a whiff of burning clutch i suppose this bedding in just like brakes???

Makes a world of difference doesn't it. Fit a short shift kit to further improve the change of the S6.
I assume you also bled the slave cylinder?

Oh yes slave cylinder took 3 goes to bleed, it was full of old green fluid of some description or other. Short shift kit sounds like a nice idea where from???

Well, you have a couple of choices, either from me, VAGParts, quattroCorner or 034Motorsport.

        But well worth doing.

By moving the clamp up you reduce the throw on the shift rod. They are made by Richard Hoffman (aka Billzcat1) he also produces the kit for the S2.

I have had mine fitted on my S6 for the last 30k miles and it is superb.

In the image you will see the original plastic item and the new improved item fitted.

9 hours @ £35 an hour if you have me do it.
Clutch from me (genuine Sach's item, unless you want an uprated item) £178.65
replace the rear oil seal while in there £20
                      new clutch slave cylinder £45
and the guide that the release bearing slides on £30.46

these are as a minimum, if you do it by removing the engine then there are other parts to replace while in there.

Looks very similar to an UR Quattro linkage. Is it the same kit thats used?

Exactly the same kit, Richard has designed it so that it can fit either the 016 shift or the 01E
