    To Ian Jemo.

Double clutching and toe/heel are driving techniques that are meant to ease off some of the strain from the mechanicals of a cars transmission. I could rant for hours on this topic but to make a long story short, you use the clutch the first time to get out of gear while braking with your toes, then you blip the throttle with your heel to get the revs up for the lower gear and to get the gear syncros to be more "ready" to intertwine, then you use the clutch again to engage the lower gear.

As another member has just said, it doesn't always work perfectly ( it's very difficult to master this technique on every single downshift ) but when it does, it's like the lower gear you wanted to select actually gets "sucked" into gear and the lever hardly needs to be nudged in the right direction ;-) !

Don't forget to let the foot off the clutch per movement i.e.

clutch in: gear out: clutch off: throttle blip: clutch in: gear in: and go

In the smoothest and quickest time possible.
I was told that you have to let the plates touch to spin the syncro.

As your doing that your heel and toeing the whole time to keep the revs up if you want slowing down that is.

I have found last night that if I push my gearstick too far over when shifting 1st to 2nd it makes it worse, if I slam the clutch down and just let the stick sort of gently find it's own way in I can get it pretty quick.

Does any one have the pop up stick problem? The stick will actually lift up and won't select gears, it just goes all floppy. Happened to me when i was shifting 5th to 6th on motorway. I nearly S**T myself. I'm guessing this must be a linkage problem as when you press the stick down again It goes back to norm?
