Well if you're interested Corey I will definitely re-open the case for this device! It's all a bit topsy-turvy to convert sequential pattern back to the H-pattern motion of the finger on the gearbox, but it is possible.

So what is the thinking behind this, is it a worth while mod or will it break after a short time???

The short shift is a worthwhile mod by most people's accounts. It transforms the feel of the gearshift (not to mention reducing the throw of the lever). This is the first I've read about a durability issue. Nothing that can't be sorted though!

Been working on the sequential idea - got some thoughts about switching from a barrel cam to a pair of discs (one for fore-aft motion, the other for cross gate motion), I think that could be more compact.

I fitted a short shifter a few years ago and mine dropped through its belll housing, --annoying

I was sent a replacement and on refitting the new one i fitted it with very large heavy duty moddified washers that sat flush under the bell housing ensuring that the rubber ball joint could not slipp downward.

          No problems at all now

          Works really well

            Sounds good George!

When I first suggested looking at a solution, I was thinking along the lines of a properly seated spherical bearing - a completely new unit rather than a modification to the available piece.

Probably isn't any mileage in the idea if your solution is already working - I like simple elegant solutions to problems!

Would you by any chance have any pics of this modification or diagrams of how you fitted the washers???

              Cheers in advance.

It was so long ago now, I would only know for sure if i stipped the gater off, I will look at the weekend,

I just know that there was a lot of trial and error and some slight modificarion, but so far all has held well together and ive never given it a thought since.
