Rear diff housing shared between Audi V8 (Actually not true as Caterpilar states below - 100/200 and C4 generation shares housing, V8 is specific BUT it uses the same internals and the housings are very very similar!) and S2. No difference in ring/pinion ratio, 4.11:1 in both --> If you want a Torsen in the back, just buy a complete rear diffhousing and bolt it on your coupe..
S2 Sedan/Avant
Tricky. Buy the diff, bolt your crown wheel on the V8 diff, mount in your housing --> 4.11:1 gearing, crown and pinion gears match up --> good to go...

Hi,
I think you have this backwards. The V8 housing may fit in the sedan and avant, but the housing in the coupe is different and will not bolt up. You would need to pull the torson out of the V8 housing and put it into the coupe housing? Right.
Also, if you just change housing in the sedan and avant, you also need to either change the inner CVs on the axles for the S2s, or change the flanges on the V8 diff. The flanges on the V8 diff are larger than the S2.

They can have my car when they pry my cold dead fingers from the steering wheel.
This also applies to the early, up to 92, sedans and avants, as they have the shorter housings also.

No, problem is that S2 Avant and S2 Sedan has the long rear axle housing where as the Coupe and type 89 sedan has the short house from Audi 100/200 - also found in the V8, C4 Audi 100, A6, S4 and S6. The stubaxels differ between S2 and V8. The right one is the very same unit. However, the left side is a different deal. The reason the stubaxels are different on the left side on the V8 and S2 is because of the diff lock mechanism on the S2. The length, 113mm, is the same if I am not mistaken - there seem to be different lengths listed and I presume that is due to use of inner CV's - S2 are likely to have beafier inner CV's than a 80 2.0 Q.
It is BECAUSE the housing is different in the Sedan and Avant that the V8 housing does not bolt right up to them - the housing in the S2 is the same as the housing in the S4 which is the same as the Audi 100 C4, which is the same as the housing in a Audi 100/200 Type 44 - which has the same generation of Quattro as the V8.
There is no such thing as an early 80 Avant Quattro - there is only 80 Avant which came late 92 and ended as the A4 took over.
I dont know if it matters but How much torwue can this torsen handle?
"Q" appears newer in ETKA, still stealer will only sell the newer.
I am going to ask for a price tomorrow. Will have fun with the price. Maybe if I sell one kidney
Caterpilar: Thats the P/N for the Torsen Diff. I have to open the rear housing and change diff, correct?

hi,
I think we are talking apples and oranges.
V8 runs a long housing. UrS4/S6 run a long housing. Coupe runs a short housing. Early 80Q sedans run a short housing.
Early Coupes and early sedans run a diff coded ARS.
7A coupes and sedans run a diff coded AEC.
S2s and 95 coupes run a diff coded AYV.
All these diffs have the same housing and the same internals and the same final drive 37/9. The difference between these diff is the size of the flanges. The more horsepower the greater the size of the flange. After mid 1990 all the coupes, no matter the horsepower, have the same rear subframe.
The V8 runs 108mm flanges. But the housing is different. In order to use a torsen from a V8 in the coupe housing you would have to remove it from the V8 housing and if possible install it in the coupe housing.
Below is picture of 7A housing and a V8 housing. The V8 is the longer one. It will not bolt up in a Coupe.

Hmm... I wonder what I have been smoking? So you are asying that the V8 housing will fit the Avant but NOT the Coupe then? I must have gotten all my P/N's mixed up because I checked, double checked and checked again.
Now, I'm truly sorry that I messed up here guys. I was about to buy the parts my self just now so I was really convinced that I was right. Sorry, and sorry again. I had all the P/N written down - I really checked and I made sure that it would fit my car. Now, seems I was dead wrong (at least in part!)
Is the V8 housing the same length as the Avant housing then? Or is that one even longer?
The axles in the pic - are they yours? Are you going to pick it apart?
Would be great if you could put en end to the discussion by testing if it will fit or won't fit.
Don't worry mate. At least you did not get to buy anything. Those things are very expensive.
I am sure all your reserch will still work. In ETKA Avant housing is longer than Coupe, but on the RS2 you can divide the housings in 2 sections, don't know about the rest of the Avant.
What it is important is if the Torsen diff from the V8 could be a swap with the Open diff of the Coupe. Bearings that connect the diff right and left are the same part number, so maybe is a direct swap. Just recheck all your analysis and a solution will be found.

Hi,
I wouldn't worry about. Like it was said, at least you did not buy expensive parts. Besides, I learned that S2s had 108mm flanges, unlike my 7A coupe which has the 100mm flanges. At least I know the 108 flanges are available to match the v8 108 flanges.
I have been doing a little research on the torsen rear diff, that is why I bought the used diffs. The V8 diff was $250 and the coupe was from a pick and pull for $60.
Unfortunately, I got these for future analysis, to see if the torsen would be a direct fit. I am doing a remodel on my house and it is taking most of my time. Any little time left right now is doing maintenance on my car, not modifications.
We don't have any avants here in the states, so I can't do a sight comparison. But checking with EKTA, after 92, the sedans and avants all run the same rear diff, with the main difference being the flanges and the ring and pinions. again horsepower, with 90, 100, and 108 flanges. The rear diffs look to be longer than the V8.
Now there are some similiarities between the Coupe diffs and the later sedan and avant diffs. The passenger side bolt on plate is the same for all the cars.
The lockup diff inside these cars is all the same, including the RS2. There are similiarities in the bearings and shims and such.
So if the V8 torsen will bolt up into one, the possibility is it will bolt up to the other, or if some modification needs to be made, it may be the same for all of them.
I don't think the V8 housing will bolt up to any of the cars, but I don't have an avant to check it with.
I will try to get some time to at least take the diffs apart to do some comparisons. But I don't have a time frame for doing this. Sorry.

THE v8 diff housing are the same diff like the AUDI 100/200. and the audi v8 chassi are the same as the A100/200.....(44 chassi) they were only as sedan,no wagon are buildt. THE HOUSING will NOT fit in,but ONLY THE lsd part from the v8 diff you have to use the housing who fit in for your car
i've seen this in a B5 hillclimb car...since the B5 housing is nearly identical to that of the B4, the V8 torsen unit from inside will bolt into the inside of the B4 casing.
