Dont know about that sachs price? That sounds too cheap for a organic one. I have trade contacts that could supply me with a 3b sachs organic clutch for 453+VAT!!!!!

A paddle clutch will last about 3000miles and will be on or off!

Also with the dual mass flywheel, if the clutch is too strong it can and will destroy the flywheel. It will rip the centre out of it!! The best option is to convert to 3b flywheel if this is possible, or get the MTM single mass flywheel conversion. The dual mass wont take the big power.

@Cobstar, that price is just the friction plate part of the clutch!! The pressure plate is nearly 400 quids!

I'm definitely on a steep learning curve with this car LOL! I assumed that was a total clutch replacement. Hope that doesn't mean I'll be looking at a clutch related bill in the near future - I'd sort of assumed that the set up was good to get us to 200,000 all things being equal.

          Doug,

What did you go with in the end?

I believe mine has died in someway. Have replaced the slave cyinder and bled it but still wont work.

Am getting a creaking type noise when using the pedal, so im guessing that whatever releases the clutch is whats knackered.

As im going to be pushing for around 400bhp from my car in the next few months it would make sense to uprate the clutch as well.

What did you come up with?

          Cheers

            Ant,

check your master cylinder pushrod. Mine was creaking and the clutch didn't bite properly. The pedal even stuck in right before I got round to getting it fixed.

The rod breaking on the master cylinder is farily common. You end up pushing the rod to one side before it engages the clutch. Now it's done I can actually change from first to second at speed without bouncing round the gearbox.

Having said that. I've done mine and now it looks like the clutch is nearly dead anyway.

The creaking sounds like its coming from the engine bay tho.

Where is the master cylinder located??

The pedal feels like it does nothing for most of the way down and doesnt return properly all the time, does that sound like the master cylinder could be at fault?

              Many thanks!!!

That's exactly how mine was. The master cylnder is up under the dash on the top of the clutch pedal.. It goes through the bulk head.

Mine was changed out in two hours the night before the garage meet. Would say it looked like an easy job but Jason who did it says it's nothing compared to the hassle of changing a slave cylinder.

So you saying the master is an easier job??

Slave was a bitch to get at, altho was made worse by the fact that as per usual patent parts arent quite as good as you would like, so had to grind a load off to make it fit.

Oh well, more fun, games and expense LOL

Ant - I have decided to go with the the same company that did Tom and Steves clutch. They are going to strengthen mine and put new material on it.

It is worth me trying this company as they are very cheap - hopefully close to £120 - might be a bit more - but if it isn't up to the job I am £120 out of pocket - but if it does work I will have saved hundreds.

Another option is to convert to the 3B flywheel and clutch - Mark is looking into doing that.

This is what i was wondering also,

I am planning in my rebuilt to use the 3B flywheel of my old engine lighten it and balance it, and use it with my new ABY engine and box, and take the alloy spacer in between out of there.
But i`m wondering if this is possible cos i think the dual mass thing would hold on to +/- 500 hp.
                      Does anybody knows ?

                      Cheers Cees

The torque limit of the Dual mass flywheel is unknown to me. If the clutch 'grips' too hard then it could make the flywheel let go.

Has anyone got any further with finding out about using the 3b flywheel on the 6 speeder box??

                          Tom,

apparently it can be done by removing the spacer plate between the six speed box and the engine and then just use the 3B flywheel and clutch, I'll be doing this I think. Not sure how much the dual mass can take power/torque wise, but I wouldnt like to be in a motor when one went pop...if they do.

                          Mark.

Im weighing up what to do with mine, cos ideally its gonna need to be uprated a bit at least if i up the power!

Ant - I'm getting my clutch stiffened and new friction material put on it.

SteveH and MarkH are going to see the company tomorrow - and hopefully take my clutch, that Tom has got, to get the work done.

Hopefully get it back within a few weeks.
