GT3071R; what clutch for daily use?

I would like to hear your advise on clutches that can handle the max HP and Nm from my GT3071R. I think I could should aim for max 600 Nm and 450 HP to stay on the safe side for specifying the clutch.
Currently my RS2 clutch does not hold up and starts smelling very bad after a session of happy driving

Using my car as my daily driver I don't like the thought of a ceramic clutch with it's on/off mode. I do not intend to do sprints with the Avant, so no clutch drops for me. I already read a few remarks on Spec Stage 2, but not really much about South Bend dual organic (where to order?), Sachs Organic or others.

034 motorsport sell only SPEC clutches and the reviews are a bit mixed on this forum, and most of the time I hear horror stories. There must be a lot of happy users I would presume, otherwise 034 would not stick with Spec only?

PKM told me the Sachs Organic will hold up nicely when using the GT3071R, but in some threads I read you need a rather heavy foot. How does it compare to Spec and South Bend?

I think I would like to combine the new clutch with a 3B flywheel instead of my DM ABY flywheel.

Thanks for any feedback on this!

Going to a 7A flywheel is a good idea . Just amke sure you read the threads carefully.

Spec clutches seem to get a mixed review as you say. There's also Clutchnet. Sachs are a good make and I think this is where my money would go. AndyP has gone for one of these, check his thread out for more information.

Thanks Andy. I read AndyPs thread but on the Clutchnet website I can not find any info on S2 clutches. Can I just take the info from a 'Audi Coupe Quattro 1991-90 2.3L 5 Cylinder' clutch with pressure plate on their website?

Not too sure which clutches are suitable for the 3B flywheel, sorry, although from memory a 7A flywheel can be used for the conversion so I assume that 7A and 3B are interchangeable although 3B is lighter. 3B flywheel is a good upgrade, helps the ABY rev a bit better than the DM. Hope you get the answers on the clutches soon enough, I'll follow this one I think.

          Well,
i run spec stage 3+ which is good for 550hp crank meaning that it will take you to the 600Nm torgue area easily and hold.It is a bit tricky at first to get used to but as time goes by you will be able to drive it without any issues and it wont remind you that it is a bit ON/OFF feel.Mine has done now around 15000Kms and some rough driving and doesnt slip or anything. You must understand that since spec says 550hp crank if your car goes 560hp(as did the guy from the US fasterthanrs2 did) it is possible to slip and freewheel.Javad asured me that i will have no problems with spec as long as it runs in the limits prescribed.

As a second option i would go with sachs organic which although it is said by sachs than it holds up to 540Nm of torgue,in practice it goes up to 600Nm without any problems.

My car now according to different dynos must be around 520-540Nm of torgue. For these figures, spec 3+ is more than enough, and by now i can start the car moving and park it without any issues of turning off or jumping around. When this one fails(i hope not for another 100.000Kms) i might go with sachs organic(if i dont plan any more power) or spec 3+ again.

I run the dual mass flywheel which also seems to endure more than the aluminium flywheels.

            Thanks for your feedback all!

How much more heavy does the SPEC Stage3+ clutch pedal feels compared to standard RS2 clutch Papvas? Did you go for the extra force clamp option?

Not sure about availability now, but I used a clutchnet carbonfibre kit for the 3B. Worked for me at 428bhp, bought it from Aelred

I think that is a good point. I does seem that Spec clutches don't like aluminium flywheels.
I have a Spec pressure plate with a Clutchnet Carbon friction plate and a steel flywheel. It will be interesting to see how it performs.

it is a bit harder than the original clutch.Tends to give you a nice exersice on your left foot especially if you are right footed(soccer and all),but you still get used to that as well.

superclamp option was not available when i bought it

I'm going for the Sachs Racing clutch!
After trying it in Breitling's old RS2, it was like pushing the oem pedal, and it did also support all the 622nm he had at the time. It was the 'Sachs Racing pressure plate' and a oem (the other clutch-thing, lol, "lamell" in norwegian anyway).

I know of a other RS2 friend that uses the same clutch setup, and no problem for him either, though a little less NM. Great drivability. Like oem, only more power.

I think i'll end up in the same NM category with the GT3076r (maybe less), so therefore I'm going for that clutch setup.

Due to all the things I've heard of the SPEC clutches, I'm not going that route, userfaults or not. (No offence to the ones running SPEC..)

I will try to locate the sachs pnr and come back with them as soon as I have located them.

Thanks Anders. That sounds good if the Sachs Race clutch will be as easy to operate as an OEM one. So what you mean is that Breitling only installed a Sachs Racing pressure plate and kept the OEM RS2 organic clutch?

Yes, im 99,9% sure that was it. Drop him an PM and he'll anwser you back

I've never encounterd anyone who have a negative word about Sachs, so Sachs it is for me. It have to be some good in that.

Papvas: I hope the clutch stays ok for you

Sachs for the win! They can handle everything you throw at them at the levels they're speced for, SPEC clutches are low quality imo.

                              IMHO - Spec is **** ...
I take it u have read my horror story ...

I've removed all the SPEC items i've on my car- using 7a flywheel now.
(If you really want i can sell u the **** :mischeif: but it wont work.)

NEVER CHANGE TO AN ALUMINIUM FLYWHEEL on a ABY/RS2 setup.
Ther are far too many Problems with non returning pedals.

I suggest you Retain the Dual mass flywheel and get a good sachs clutch.
Lightened flywheels on heavy cars make for poor traffic light take offs.
Considering you say you want it for daily use - DM will be the best.
