Bang in the rear when shifting

    Hello.

When shifting normally, there is a bang in the rear. When i use more of the clutch, no bang. No banging in any other condition.

    Diff mounts?

Diff mounts sound like the most likely cause but all of my diff and transmission mounts are new and I still have a bump. Think the centre prop bearing is the suspect now.

Bang happens only when shifting up (first to second, second to third...), when shifting down, no bang whatsoever.

have you checked your front engine mount ?

Rear Diff has some backlash on the crown and pinion ?

I bet its that round central mount on the rear diff, you unbolt the bracket from the diff, replace the mount and bolt the bracket back on, there's a Powerflex option for it too, but some people report more vibration in the car with it. Worth replacing the 3 mounts while you're under there IMHO.

Interesting to hear the outcome of this as i have similar problems and get a bit of a clunk when changing gear ( going up the box only, fine coming down the gears )
Can also feel a bit of movement through the gear lever when changing and when the clunk appears !!!

Sounds more so to be coming from around the middle of the car rather than the rear on mine though !

check you're gearbox mounts - i've just replaced one that had split in two, might be worth replacing

I'll have a look at them mate, its not at the stage where its a huge clunk yet but still worth investigating before it gets too bad !

Are they easy enough to replace and how much for the new mounts ???

Also need to replace the steering column top bush as have a bit of play in the steering wheel, anyone changed one of these before ??
