I used PORstrip to clean up my diff, then painted it with POR15 and then topcoated with POR15 Chassis-Black.
Ali-clean is ok but not that effective at getting off 15+ year corrosion IMHO.

Now he tells me - right after I placed an order for t'other stuff... Thanks though - its really good to get product recommendations like that from the pros. Such a PITA that you can't get stuff like this off the shelf at the local motor factors. I never intend to buy Hammerite ever again for example - except maybe for a garden gate or something....

I took the mounts and side casing off my rear diff and blasted them. The main casing was in good shape, so I just cleaned it.

I wouldn't blast the main casing unless I was going for a total strip down. There's a breather on the top anyway.

I took the side casing off to check the diff, replace the seals, and to clean the magnet of swarf. I also renewed the diff lock actuator parts.
I wish I hadn't bothered getting a new boot clip from Audi, as it turned out to be a massively oversized hose clip.

You want to watch those Frost orders. Just wait until the quarterly catalogue arrives at your door, and you find yourself browsing it.

Rob turned me away from Hammerite to POR-15. I haven't looked back. Just try not to get it on your face.
I like the Dinitrol products too, especially the Audi S4 on the tin. A typical rusty car that needs such a product, obviously.
