  • Clutch set question?

now i need to buy a new Clutch set for my 3b engine.

my project will be 370-400 hp.

can standard Clutch set handle with this hp?

or is better to buy some preformance Clutch set?
which set do you sugest to me?

I need this car for every day.

Hard to say what to go for... the spec 3 seems popular but there are some negative experiences to be found on here too.

Personally i would say you'll have to upgrade - i know Chris M on the forum had a 370hp 3B and he had some clutch slip on the standard after a while. It may hold it, but probably not for long!

I had a clutchnet jobbie on mine that feels very much like stock in all aspects yet holds 400+ hp.

Southbend clutch. For up to 600hp I'd go with the southbend Stage 4 organic feramic. They use the sachs racing pressure plate as a base for its excellent clamping force combined with a disc of their own design. I can set you up with whatever you need, PM me for details.

RS2 has the same clutch setups as the ABY (AFAIK) And the Rs2 puts out ~370-380 with a good tuning chip, not sure how much the stock 3b clutch is rated for but a stock ABY is good enough for that kind of powerlevels..

              thanks for that information.

              they are almoust the same.
i will buy original sachs .

dont belive to other brands of clutchs...

the new stock clutch from sachs will be better then "first" os "second" stage from some other brand. that is my opinion

              do you agree?

Sachs is the way to go, the uprated sachs clutch for 3b wheel is a beauty. I used it in my avant and I've supplied a few of these clutches to various ppl, everyone is very happy with it, Jamos is getting his in a few days.

I have a ABY/ADU OEM Sachs clutch and DM flywheel in my car. It holds up tot ~500Nm and gives my Avant 368 HP at the wheels in 4th and higher gears. In 1st and 2nd gear I can "smoke" the clutch a bit, as it starts to smell

I have 3B clutch from there (unfortunately sitting under my desk right now), yes, it's going to be mounted between 2.7T engine and 01E gearbox

                      What torque are we talking?
I use a spec st3+ together with a 3b flywheel at a aby-engine, works fine! Its happy for about ~800nm.
For high torque on a dm flywheel you can weld the flywheel discs together and use a sachs upgraded clutch with a original organic lamel, will work proper for ~600 nm.

                      Sorry for my bad english

I don't like the spec clutches. Never heard of ppl welding the flywheel together
The 707 is specd for 577nm + 30% with sinter, but I know several ppl using that clutch with 700+ hp (and similar if not more tq) and no issues, Hells racing and Andreas silver s2 for instance (I supplied the sinterdisc to Andreas)

                          Whoa ! 800Nm on a Spec 3+ Clutch !
                          My 3+ Couldnt hold a GT3071.
When i went for a spec stage 5 the pressure plate broke !

IMO - i think they must have had a bad batch cause some people report success with them.

Det är för att det inte ska spricka isär ju!

Sounds strange that the spec3+ wont handle the torque of a gt3076.
Bad mounting, oil/grease on the flywheel/lamell from a broken crankshaft rear gasket?

My bad english again...sorry for it!

yeah I get why you do the welding but why not simply run a 7a wheel or a 3b, or then an alu one from snarskogens or similar.
