    Ur quattro AAN Gearbox/diff options.

I am planning a 400-450bhp AAN engine in my 84 ur quattro. I have a donor engine and gearbox from S4/S6 (haven't seen the car yet, it's at White Cottage)

My question is quite simple, what is the best gearbox to use, the 016 in the car is supposed to be very tough, but Pete suggests the 6 speed box and diff from the S6 would make the car more usable.

Is the 6 speed strong enough to handle this kind of power? I would just as well keep the 5 speed box if possible. Bearing in mind the stock WR rev's to 5500-6000RPM and an AAN to 7000RPm, will the gearing be an issue?

Djones appears to run standard 016 box, but is that with an origional WR diff?

Last night I might have jumped the gun slightly and ordered this flywheel: http://www.034motorsport.com/product...roducts_id=636

    This project is it's infancy.....

The 6speed 01E gearbox will easily hande 450bhp, but the 016 is supposed to be one of the strongest quattro gearbox's around. But as Pete says the 6 speed will transform the car, I've just taken the 5speed out of my 3B coupe and replaced it with an 01E 6 speed and it's a vast improvment, makes the car seem quicker and it's much easier to keep it on the boil.
Not sure about fitting the 01E in a UR though, I think therre is an issue with front driveshafts, i.e. which ones to use.

AndyP: Any change you could do a write up on what is needed to fit a 01E gearbox onto the 3B s2 Coupe? Or just send me a PM with the parts needed etc. Looking at doing this myself and would really like to have a shopping list

you need the linkage for the 6tr tranny/ and there are som different clutches... some does have to use 2pc right handed propshafts... the tranny will fit any engine from audi vw, petrol and diesel

I think I'm going to forge ahead and use the 6 speed box, although it's not yet finalised.

I already have an O1E 6 speed and am hoping to do a similar conversion into my typ85 90 - no need to change diff there . There will probably be some differences as the UR has 5 lugs not 4, but it needs to be noted the 016 is shorter than the 01E. THerefore a spacer is required.

Regarding the linkage, there is also a way around this avoiding the need for extensive work putting in a wider tunnel from an S2 and this was written up in Audi Driver not that long ago. A kit for this method is available from a guy in Belgium which I bought for my car. I'm sure the UR is not a million miles different. But the choice of keeping my car more standard looking swayed me.
            Hope this helps?

There are some pics in my project thread:-

              Parts you need are:

              Gearbox with mounts
              ABY / V6 front subframe
              Shift linkage with gearlever
              ABY propshaft
ABY clutch hose, althought the 3B hose can be modified to fit.

Front drive shafts can stay 3B and I left my std 3B clutch on too, although I fitted a new ABY slave cylinder whilst the box was out. I think thats about it.
