I already had it on the shelf, bought it for another project but it was all i had when changing the gearbox on the avant, seemed a better idea than putting the old one back in.

If you have it use it. Only reason i bought the metal one was an uprated pressure plate and plastic bearing didnt seem like a good idea. I will probably buy another one to replace it. The Avant will make a good test bed to see if any issues arise using the metal one, so far so good but its only done ~3000 miles.

Use the Sachs bearing the 034 bearing rattles ask me how I know this
Jamo, have you moved to a 3B flywheel since the rebuild?
I've has couple of rattly clutches; they go quiet once you depress the clutch at idle or rev above 1.5k. I'd put it down to the uprated friction plates rattling on the gearbox splines, or the springs in the friction plates. I didn't consider the thrust bearing could be the issue, have many more experienced the same issue?

Exactly that it happens on pulling off on mine from stationary or very low speeds only.
I spoke with a couple of people who used the OEM bearing who don't get rattle on the same clutch and flywheel
