Is there any way to see if I have DM og SM flywheel?

Strange question I guess, but I would like to know if this is a way to see if I have a SM or DM flywheel without taking the gearbox out.

Things is that I got my gearbox renovated a couple of years ago and according to the gearbox man there where some problems with the clutch. The pressure plate that was on the car had part no. 034-141-032L.

Just found the invoice and he used the gearbox housing from a Audi A4 B5, the code is DGW.

I'm doing a 6 speed conversion and I really dont want a to have the DM flywheel if it comes to that.

if it has a lip kind of gasket between the gearbox and the motor, then it is the dual mass flywheel

Yep, if it has a alloy spacer between the block and the bell housing then you have the dual mass fly wheel.

Will have a look, but since I perhaps have some weird gearbox combo I'm not sure if the spacer will be there?

Not sure if it possible to use the duel mass fly wheel without a spacer, I know you can't with a ABY CGR six-speed box or 3B five speed for that matter. You say that your gearbox is of B5 origin, I suppose Audi could have used a revised bell housing on the B5 to do away with the spacer. I'm sure someone on here will know.

I think I will buy a 3B flywheel just to be sure since I'm converting to 6 speed. I can always sell it on if I got one already.

Why would he have fitted a dual mass when the single mass would have fitted to the said above gearbox?

I agree check for the spacer, no spacer no dual mass

The gearbox man did not fit any flywheel at all, however he did buy a new clutch for the 3B engine and that did not fit to the DGW box however the old clutch which is from a Audi 100 Quattro AAH/ABC (6 cylinders) did fit.

So before I got the rebuild gearbox on I was running a Audi 100 quattro clutch a bit strange unless I have something different then SM flywheel?

What is your car? The spacer is only found on S2s, the URS4 (or 100Q) does not have the spacer. You should be able to tell which flywheel it is by looking through the opening on the bell housing, if it looks like two disks that move independently its a dual mass.

Audi S2 Coupe 3B, but I have some freaky 5-speed clutch gearbox combination.

The opening on the bell housing, do you mean the place where you look for TDC when doing the timing belt?
