Welded front diff and locked rear?

Has any one here done this and have any comments about it?

It should in theory drive like the old ur quattros as you can lock all that up manually and it can be drove fine.

Example being djones who has mentioned driving with them locked as the old style one's don't unlock after you start going.

    Get it done

You can't lock a front diff on the 016 gearboxes like the urq has.

A Eklund teammember told me that they locked all the S4 diffs 100%
This made the car impossible to turn in the garage (duh), but gave excellent traction. But be aware of a similar roll circumference of your tires otherwise the car will tend to steer in one direction.

I think with both diff's locked and lots of power and a hard driving style you should end up side ways with lots of smoke.

That sounds good, but it would be almost impossible to drive slow and bounce and skip all over the place or is this just for track only car even then it might be to much.

Sprinting - yes, everything else - no. It'll only slide if you're aggressive, anything else and it'll understeer, same as fitting an LSD to the rear axle.

why would an LSD at the rear make the car understeer? You'll have more traction at the rear than a stock open diff so the centre torsen will bias more torque to the rear axle under slip conditions reducing power understeer

Talking from experience on the BM, if the tyres have grip then when the diff starts to lock it can push the front out rather than the back sideways. In wet conditions the car is very twitchy and can give over and understeer in equal measure unless you're heavy on the throttle. Overall you have to be experienced or a hero to get the best from it, there are advantages there if you are brave!

I'm with Andy on this, locked diffs at either end will increase understeer potential!!!

Ramp type LS diffs would offer the potential to vary the preload when powered or coasting though.

Locked sounds good for the drags or in the snow if you're brave enough to flick the car about!!!

No james, from what i´ve thought you were going to track race tha car often? welded diffs are for Straight forward suckers ( no offence to those people..)

Leave standard, and when $$ allow, get an LSD rear and New center diff... ( or an v8 torsen, but no launch control starts..)

One thing i've learned we are way behind the Scandinavians!

The A4 quattro Touring Cars didn't have centre differentials. The prop shaft was made of carbon fibre and weighed some ridiculously tiny amount. David Ingram of Audi handed me one down at Audi Sport - I asked how it worked and he said it was torsion - it was just allowed to wind up until the car picked a wheel up and everything sorted itself out.

The prototype urq didn't have one either.
