Spacer for converting 5 speed to 6 speed gearbox

    Hi,

So in the progress of converting my 5 speed to 6 speed but I'm having some difficulties with the spacers.

Anybody out there that did the conversion, that can remember if they used the spacer for both gearbox brackets or just one side?

Because on my right hand site the gearbox bracket fits perfectly on the subframe, but on the left I have to use the spacer.

    Which subframe are you using?

I've done this using a V6 subframe and didn't need to use any spacers. If your using the 3B subframe then I think you do need to use spacers.

Yeah sorry I'm using the 3B subframe and I have different spacer, but a bit unsure if I need spacer for both sides or just one side.

Only on the left side you need a big spacer

Do you by any chance know if the small arm (item 3) and the nut (item 4) need to be completely thighten in or is it ok if it has some slack?

The problem is that the nut is closed in one end so it will allow the arm to move a bit.

              .

Looking at it, the arm must be able to rotate on the shaft...if there is some up/down movenemt on the shaft a thin washer may help.

It looks to work like a parallelagram...'/ / ' if that helps.

V6 and RS2 share the same subframe.

the arm doesn't rotate around the shift rod, it rotate with it to select the gears. The shift rod also moves in and out of the gearbox, this is how the H-pattern is achieved.
I was looking at my 6spd box the other day and noticed the slack when you use the domed nut on the shift rod - i think you ideally want it pinched tight

the pivot rod on the other hand does need to rotate around the shaft of the bracket

Yeah oki my idea was also that the arm should be thight and not have the slack. I will secure it with a normal M8 locking nut.
