    Missing "bit"... FAO Martyn, Ben....

*****IGNORE THE HIGHLIGHTED PART THATS SELECTED COS I NICKED THIS IMAGE FROM A PREVIOUS POST*****

Im missing a rubber gromet and small plastic insert thing on the part shown below...

Where 33 & 32 bolt on the gear linkage bit on to the thread, 30, there is a rubber gromet and plastic insert that goes in each side of it.

Without it that part sits too low down on the thread, this affects gear selection, i only have 1 side, so am missing it on the other, this means i can either select 1,2,3,4 or 3,4,5,6.

I know that its part of the linkage arm that is over £200 but wondered if you guys would know whether the same part is available on other models as i desperately need this!!!

Its spaced up using washers at the moment but isnt correct still and so i cant fit my short shift kit until its spot on without it first.

    Thanks guys.

I've had a quick look through the family album. It doesn't look like the linkage is used on anything but S2/RS2. I can't find any repair kits aor bushes listed separately either.

Doh!! I know that the part isnt available separate from the linkage arm thingy.

Oh well, lots of patience with washers then i guess until its spot on.

      Thanks for looking Ben.

        Ant,

The spacer bush (insert), I reckon you should get one of these 8A0 711 217 and see if maybe that doesn't sort out the insert problem. At least that will then give you a good shift again, as for the grommet... time to overcome and adapt / mod.

The 8A0 711 217 is only £3.61 from a dealer so just ask your local to get you one / two... that'll sort the linkage ok for you I sure.

I don't think that spacer bush is for that area though. Looks to me like that is used where the plate mounts to the gearbox.

          Worth a shot though.

On a 5 Speed the shaft (no 20) connects directly onto the gearbox selector shaft. From part (25) onwards is only on 6 Speed boxs.

Try asking allaudi.co.uk, i know they have scrapped three S2's in the last year.

            Mark.

Could well be Ben, for £4 gotta be worth a shot huh? if it is the bit Ant needs, cool if not... £4 down the pan..... Might be able to make it work..

Failing that... have the part made?

Rah this thread goes on and on.... thanks guys, i've spaced it up using washers for now which seems to do the trick, isnt perfect, but its close enough. 1st to 2nd isnt quite straight but that aside its good.

Might have a short shift kit for sale tho.... have been so use to the throw on MK1 Golf's that being back in the S2 it feels really short anyway when changing gears.... will confirm in FS section once im decided.
