        Right then.

Firstly, what a mod! All drive line shunt that was left after the rather disapointing Powerflex rear diff bush has gone! Even severly harsh backing off and stamping on the accelerator didn't seem to cause any problems.

This is where I ended up again

This was because the snub mount holder on the engine was too long to allow the braket to fit with the front on, with the rubber on there was less than 10mm clearance. This could be addressed by hacksawing off a bit of the snubmount holder

But I chose not to. If you take a chunk off then you will need a plate 70mmx150mm with 12mm thro holes, 125 centres, 20mm from one edge (approx) I know because I made one up and didn't use it!

Next stage was to mount the snub mount to the cross member using M10 x 25mm caphead bolts. Hex head bolts won't work as space is too tight. Ditch the washers shown in the pictures, they just got in the way!

No final picture I'm afraid as it was all a bit late and dark.

I believe it's off a mk.1 Golf Gti. Will ahve to check the receipt for the part number but it will almost certainly be the same as S2Avant posted

Darn - I forgot to order these from VAGparts with all my timing belt stuff - knew I'd missed a trick

Do I just need the bracket part number posted by Ben ?
What about the rubbery snub mount itself - which is best ?

Part no. posted by Ben, standard rubber mount and knock 10mm off the snub mount bracket that the rubber sits on. Centres are 122mm on the mount, I used 12mm slots with a milling machine. You will need to place M10 bolts as close to the ribs as possible. Fitting is a little tight!

OK, but you've confused me now...

You say you didn't knock 10mm off the bracket and that you didn't use the spacer plate. Am I right in saying that the plate part number posted by Ben achieves the fit without taking 10mm off the snub ?

I'm gonna remove the crossmember whilst doing the timing belt - prolly gonna fit my RS2 IC on the rebuild with some kind of bracket fashioning... So I don't think I will have this 10mm problem as I'll be bringing the snub parts into play as I refit the cross member. Does that make sense ?

when i replaced mine i used the bracket (machined by Officer Casey) and the bolts and litterally put it in place of the original. I didn't use any spacer or remove anything from the snub end either? Mine is a 3b mit aircon btw...

And no joke, its a very VERY tight to get fitted but once on it does the job!

OK - thanks for clarifying, but Ben used the spacer. Think I'll order it just in case. I have also found a number of other potentially stiffer snub mounts from the parts bin. They may or may not fit of course, so I'm ordering various ones and I'll report what works best. They are all about 4-6 quid list price so no big drama if they are wrong.

This sounds like a great mod. Good work!

Is this a mod that can be effectively installed without upgrading the engine mounts, gearbox mounts etc etc to a motorsport/track density?

                              Muchos gracias

This is a nice mod but its just one engine mount at the front 'snub' - it wouldn't give the same results as upgrading all engine/tranny mounts but it should greatly limit the potential for engine movement at the front. You can do this mod in isolation - thats what I plan to do - will report any noticeable findings.
