Got to check the fitting and whether tyhe back plate desing works before making a few more. I had a friend (fellow S2 owner) sort this for me so we'll finish it off and see what they come out at
Won't be too long as looking at fitting it this weekend!

So what is next in the machined aluminium front after the snub mounts? (remembering that I was the first to ask for one
)
As many of you know, I have a couple of old Triumphs (hence the name) and one of the things that the suppliers are doing is remaking old cast pig-iron stuff (pulleys, diff housing etc) in ally as the weight savings are huge. I have always wondered why there is not more of this done for our cars.

Lunchtime sermon on the snub mount
Well I took a slightly longer lunch here at home to cook up my own variant of a snub mount upgrade. I was going to fabricate something like what S-Express did, then realised I couldn't be bothered waiting for someone to weld anything.
I had already bought the SQ snub mount bracket as used by s2avant & Andy_Casey, but I decided to try a new variable as well in the shape of the snub rubber from 200TQ and some A4 models. Its a much nicer fit in the SQ mount than the stock item and isn't as rigid as the really heavy duty materials. I tried one from an A6AR but it just feels too hard - I reckon it will transmit too much road noise being h/d rubber. The one I selected is more like high density foam which has some give when you squeeze it in your fist. The A6AR item is almost solid.
I had to modify the SQ bracket with a drill, hacksaw and file so as to let it find the correct position.
Parts used -
171 199 319 A - SQ snub bracket
N 014 721 4 - M10 allen Bolts for above (2-off)
N 015 402 6 - Washers for above (2-off)
8D0 199 339 P - Snub rubber
I was surprised how much I had to raise the position of the SQ bracket with the slotted hole mods. The car is jacked up on axle stands at the subframe of course so that shouldn't make a difference, but I'll check the position of the bracket when its down on 4 wheels again.

Just realised that I haven't bothered to mod and fit the SQ spacer plate yet (859 199 319) between the mount and the x-member. Maybe no biggie, but I might just slot it and squeeze it in from the top for added rigidity - that x-member is pretty strong, but the plate adds some beef.
Pic of new snub rubber on the engine. Note there is lots more material than the mushroom shaped standard item.Attached FilesPaul Nugent
