Audi A6 quattro box will it work on a Audi 100 quattro?

    Hi all

I know its not a S2 , BUT, I hope someone can help me out...............

I been running a L reg Audi 100 quattro(v6), and gearselection is very stiff, guys at work say box is on its way out.checked level.all ok ,,,,,,,,old dirty looking and smelly.
I have the manual diff lock on this car,on the center consol.

I got access to a M reg Audi A6 quattro(v6), it hasnt got the diff lock button on center consol...............

MY question is .........could the later box be used in the earlier car with out damaging it

OR is there other problems i can look forward to .....by using this box..............any info, suggestions welcome

    Thanxs

Firstly you need to know if the final drive ratio is the same.. I was told though that they are different, I'm actually looking for a quattro box for a 1998 A6 2.8 V6 avant ..

The button is for rear diff not centre diff. If the new box is from V6 than I dont see any reason why it could not be used in the 100 V6. Apart from 30V V6 they are the same engines anyway.

Very dangerous statement. It is 1000% necessary to confirm that both the donor and receiver vehicles have the same final drive ratio. Typically this is 4.11 to 1 based on 37/9 crown and pinion gears in the rear diff and the transmission. However, the C4 A6 *might* have a 35/9 differential gear set = 3.889 to 1 ratio = KABOOOM with a 4.11 rear diff. You really need to know.

        All that said, a B5 S4 EDU/DSY 6 spd trans is a 4.11 to 1.

^^^^^^ as above dbl check the final drive. I'm running a 1999 A6 diesel box on my s6 which is similar chassis to the 100.

I had to machine the locating dowel in the block down, changed over the output flanges to the front drive shafts from my old box and changed over the shifted mechanism from my old box. Other than that it was a direct fit.

If my ELSA and ETKA are correct both 12v V6 A6 C4 and V6 100 C4 use CKF and AAT rear diffs with manual gearboxes (gear ratio 37/9). When it comes down to taking gearbox from AAH/ABC and transfering it to another ABC/AAH there should be no issues with rear diff regarding the drive ratio.

Automatics and 103Kw 2L engine (ACE) use different ratio rear diff.

              help

              Hi all

Thankyou for your imput............oil was draimed and will be filled with new oil tomorrow........smelly and dark...it was.gear slection got very notchy and syncro ring noise on gear change.............all joints and pivit ponts checked on gearlever mech and said to be ok

I still be looking for your imput in coming days , as i still possibly have to remove other one from donor car

My main concern is would gearbox/internals get damaged if i used the rear diff lock on the Audi 100 quattro, on the Audi A6 quaattro box (does it have the torsion system in the A6 gearbox?)

              cheers

Er...that would be TorSen, not torsion, system.

Having the diff lock should do no harm, I would not be worried by this.
