I always wondered about that because our S4 dosent have the spacer. I was always convinced the S4 went better than the S2, always seemed to pull through the rev range quicker. Lighter flywheel makes perfect sense now you say it, you learn something new every day.

              good riddance, I say.

Mike, go and drive a 3B, and see the light. Just ignore the rattle at idle.

A 6kg SM flywheel suits me. But I do hardly any driving in traffic. I can see why Jamo would want a DM. I think a stock 3B or 7A flywheel is a good compromise.

You can use an AAN flywheel but it is a slightly different clutch and you need to loose the spacer ring to the gearbox. If you balance a single mass unit properly it will still be very smooth just a little harsher on take of.

As for getting an AAN one from Audi if you have 4 figures spare go ahead but not for me thankyou. But as they are made by LUK check if GSF or the likes can supply.

cheers for all the help folks....i even tried audi tradition...they are getting back to me...

it appears that my option is an LUK part....as i don't fancy giving audi a 4 figure sum....unless it's for something nice and shiny and not just a mundane thing like a flywheel...

the thing is I do have one but as i am sticking a load more power through it I want to be sure that the thing won't rip itself apart...

at this rate i am going to use the one I have, balance the bottom end and swap my flywheel from my current engine (as I know the condition of that) when i swap engines over...

for a 15 year old car this is terrible...if it was broken i would have to ditch the car....as no-one sells them new...

I like the single mass FW on mine, it's happier to rev and it's only a little rough below about 1500rpm. As JP says above; get it balanced and it'll be great.
