flex drive axles, steel type ?

I am considering making some flex drive axles to spare gearbox and joints

but do anyone know what type of steel they must be made of ?

for example what type of steel do Fixit Transmission use ?

they are doing some shaft kit for s2 but i do not like the price

A lot to choose. I'd say something like 51CrV4
CDX specifies something alike. And if it works for 800Nm+ dynamically challenged shafts in Rallycross, it does for me.

---->quattro84 So if I make 4 axles of 51CrV4 so they should not break

The unbreakable shaft does not exist.
Shafts will shear on the smallest surface, which normally is at the CV joints, the entry of the milling cut for the spline.
I would engineer it torsional weak, to allow twist and act like a radial spring on hard launches. Then it is to find the next weakest link in the chain, most likely the (rear) CV's splines in the hubs.

Where do you buy your stock/billets? Ask your supplier for the best matching metallurgic material for your appliance. A skilled representative would point you in the right direction.

You can machine rear hubs to take front hubs with no issue this should help a whole lot.

Indeed, increase the bore to accept the 82(?)mm bearings. Only needed for the Coupe though, Avant and Sedan have the proper ones fitted as stock

www.cp-service.se sell a fixit kit that use front CV joints for the rear driveshafts... quite expensive though.

I think I fit the front CV's at the rear

and then I find some stronger axles
