Looking at the S2 coupes (ACOQ), the 7A, NM, 3B drive (propeller) shaft seems to be PN 893521101, whereas the S2 coupe with ABY is 8A0521101H. I presume the ABYs all got 6 spds.

When you look at the A80Q, i.e. S2 avant, the ABY propeller shaft is 8A0521101F.

    OH WAIT!!

You're probably talking about the half shafts that take power from the transaxel to the front wheels. In which case, the 3B (= 5 spd) and ABY ( = 6 spd) "drive shafts" are the same, e.g. 8A0407271AC = left side and 8A0407272AC = right side.

Great only the prop is different. Is it longer or shorter or different in what way I wonder.

If converting a 3B to 6 speed you can use the front section of an Avant prop shaft with the back section from the 3B.

From memory a B3 90q shaft was shorter too and could be used. I remember talk of some 90q's having a carbon fiber prop shaft, but never seen any proof of that.

What are you trying to do? I have an ABY coupe prop in the shed if its of any use to you.

I'd be interested to know if anyone has ever actually seen one of these fabled carbon prop shafts? Seen them mentioned a lot, but only 3rd hand information...

I have. Off a 7A Coupe Quattro local to me. But the "fibre" was more like kevlar than carbon.
