  • Short shift. Which brand and where from?

After fitting the poly snub mount on my coupe it tightened things up loads. I'm considering taking some of the throw out of the gear stick. My gear change is not worn but compared to my mk2 golf there is a lot of throw between gears.
Mine is a 3b so has the 5 speed box. Thanks in advance Steven

I've been tinkering with a mk1 golf today I am doing a ground up resto on. Anyway I realised the ball and socket joint we are paying 60 quid for the short shift is just a mk1 golf one. I bet they are dirt cheap to buy.
Just a thought for those considering this mod. Works lovely on my x5 speed box.

Good find. Does the repair kit require any modification to fit or is it "Plug and Play"?

You need to open out the holes a tiny bit to fit over studs. Other than that trimming the collar as discussed on here.
I plan to get the part number for the plastic collar and return spring too then it would need no tweaking at
all for a 5 speed anyway. Already convinced my brother to buy one on ebay.

                            Ap83,

You may not have got a response because some might say this has been discussed too often. Folks do expect those seeking answers to STFA thoroughly before asking. Try this thread as it gets you your answer and more including perhaps possible sourcing if you think you need that too (see posts #138 & 149):

Thank you. I did read a lot of the threads but being an s2 newbie thought there could be an off the shelf product.

                              Cheers
                              Aidan
