    Longest 01E box?

Is the C4Q TDI gearbox (dpj?) the longest ratio'd box available for the b4/c4 platform?

I found a list of 01e ratios the other day and couldn't see any. Been told about MRC's 6th Gear upgrade, but was more hoping for an inhouse off the shelf option from another car?

    The longest 6th gear for a 01E is 0.56:1 from a diesel box.\

Cheers, I'd rather not get involved with taking boces apart if it can be helped, but a google of the cyt gearbox bring an s2 thread with these ratios...

      Code letters CYT

      Allocation Model: Audi A6 TDI
      Engine: 2.5 l - 103 kW

      Ratio Final drive 37 : 9 = 4.111
      (Z2 : Z1=i) 1st gear 28 : 8 = 3.500
      2nd gear 34 : 18 = 1.889
      3rd gear 33 : 26 = 1.231
      4th gear 27 : 31 = 0.871
      5th gear 26 : 39 = 0.667
      6th gear 23 : 41 = 0.561
      Reverse gear 38 : 11 = 3.455

      Speedometer Electronic
      Capacity 2.7 litres
      Specification Gear oil G 052 911 A SAE 75 W 90 (synthetic oil)
      Clutch mechanism Hydraulic
      Clutch plate dia. 240 mm
Drive shaft flange dia. 130 mm

      Then I found this list.....

** both sets of ratios are listed for S6 V8 6 speeds.
**# DGV listed for A8 1994-> Includes oil pump & wide 1st gear
      R&P Note: AllRoad has 35/8 (4.375) - other 01E has 37/9 (4.11)
Most A4 gearboxes have different R&P ratios.

So going by that the a4 2.5tdi for some reason has the longest box with a shorter final drive. Strange they put that in the a4, and the a6 c4 and c5 tdi's gets a short 01e.

Then going to ebay finds a 2001 a4 quattro with a completely different code to the above... DQT?

How could I get a list of all the 6 speed quattro boxes with a 3.89 final drive and 0.56 6th?

You go 3.89:1 and then you have to make sure you also have a 3.89:1 rear diff.

Not without plenty of chopping and modding.

An s4/s6 auto rear diff might be suitable.i can't recall the ratio offhand

Fair enough, had a quick google for the auto diff ratio but couldn't find it. If not, do C5 diffs fit?

Possibly 3.78:1? Would that much of a difference vs 3.89 upset the gearbox?

No problem. It would not be upset. It would *just* BLOW UP!!!!

The transaxle final drive crown and pinion ratio and the rear differential crown and pinion ratio have to be EXACTLY the same, not just "close enough"

                        Excellent.

Back to the question of fitting a B5/C5 Diff?

Or maybe the drive into a C4 diff?

Is there anywhere with a more complete list of ratios offered in 01E format?

Are any of the later boxes any weaker at all? Everything else on the C5 seems to be!

                        Cheers

Try this 01E list (mostly 4.11:1 transmissions):

Yeah that was what I found through google, but I keep finding/getting offered boxes with codes that aren't on the lists.

How many different boxes are there for the C4Q TDI 6 speed?

As far as I know/can find, the answer is 2 for the 2.5L AEL TDI in a C4:

                              1. In 1996, the AEL came with a CYT 6 spd with 23/41 (0.56:1) 6th and 37/9 (4.11:1) crown and pinion.

                              2. In 1997, the AEL came with a DPJ 6 spd with 23/41 (0.56:1) 6th and 37/9 (4.11:1) crown and pinion.

I don't know the differences between a CYT and DPJ.

I did right this post regarding 5 spds vs 6 spds in C4s: http://forums.quattroworld.com/s4s6/msgs/184736.phtml
