    Built and painted.

Feels smooth and getting all the gears when testing on a bench. I think I will get a custom twin plate organic clutch made and then fit it and this gearbox. The Sachs racing sintered paddle clutch can hold the 700nm ok but it's poor to drive with.

      Nice work.

I had the same problem with my Lupo last year, but it stripped both 5th gears, and with no 2nd hand 'boxes around I had to pay ~£600 just for the 2 gears as well as having to replace a few bearings.
I never imagined gearbox internal parts could be so expensive.

So today I bought another a4 v6 2.5tdi quattro gearbox. This one was in good condition and the only fault I found was a slight bit of pitting on third gear. It was on the overrun side not the power side. Weird.

But I had another 3rd gear in my growing box of bits. So swapped that ok. Then I needed to change the final drive as the tdi is taller geared so I split my original urs4 gearbox that was fine bar a noisy first gear. It was amazing it was going at all.

Anyhow it's built up now and ready to go as a spare.

Ouch. I drained my cgr and the fluid was metallic and some shiny chunks came out. Driving with a called 1st for a year made a mess. Got a used EDU, hope it's quiet, 1-2 shifts okay on the bench. Should be driving soon

The gearbox with the bad first gear made noise for over 40k miles. It might of got slightly noisier when I pulled it out but was driving ok bar the noise in first.

It might be worth opening up your EDU box and checking it over. Of the 4 boxes I opened all of them have had something that needed attention.

I installed my EDU and the 1-2 collar was too tight. Took it in and it also needed the 3-4 collar and 2nd and 3rd gears. On top of a rebuild and upgrades it hurt my bank account but it feels good now!

So you were right, the shop said most of the cores they have seen have been too far gone to bring back. Not sure if they were trying to make me feel better...

Where did you source your parts? Dealer?

I had it done at JHM Motorsports. They had good used parts to sell and finish the job. Dealer prices were scary!

Using a single mass flywheel? That may cause noises on a 6-speed as well.

I went to a lightweight flywheel and then my noise started in neutral and gear chatter in gear below 3k

I was facing this noise issue, and it was an internal bearing failing.
