    Gear Linkage Adjustment

    Evening chaps,

Replaced the clutch a few months ago and had an irritating problem with the gear change ever since, whilst fitting the gearbox back in the linkage got caught in the tunnel and so I was unbolted and split in two.

It was obviously not bolted back together in the same position as the gear change was immediately different, 1st was where 3rd was and I couldn't get 5th and 6th, a few days after it was in again on the ramp and we adjusted it and at that time all gears seemed to be free to select, even though the gear lever felt slightly spongy. When selecting 1st it is far too easy to mistake it for reverse as the lever barely goes down (quickshift fitted btw). Final issue is that you cannot junp from 4th to 6th and even 5th to 6th is quite hard.

Tonight I was hooning it around and did a couple of launches changing from 1st to 2nd at 7k ( not done this for ages as I have had a mis fire and boost cut) near my house, I went to pull up after a cool down drive and couldnt get it into 1st ! I did after a few attempts- the lever was solid, had the same issue with reverse. I thought I would try switching the engine off and selecting a gear but it was exactly the same.....

So what is the best way to adjust the linkage? I have read up about disconnecting it all and putting the gear lever in neutral and bolting the rod directly to it etc but I am more concerned about the lower end with the splines etc

Did plan on fitting new shperical (is that the name?) ends on to eliminate play etc but before I do just want to try adjusting first. Is there a way of counting the spplines to adjust etc?

From memory there is a roll pin in one half of the linkage at the splined end to prevent you assembling it incorrectly - maybe that was damaged / missing? O r maybe I imagined it! I have part of a linakge in the garage I can take come pics tomorrow if you like

Once that is alinged properly best way is to get it in neutral, loosen the bottom bolt on the lever, get a mate to hold the lever in position (IIRC it was 12deg off vertical or thereabouts) and then tighten up the bolt

Any more input anyone ? Went to get underneath earlier but the weather is shocking ! Checked inside the car-gear lever all seems to be ok, I've stripped it out and checked -all is well

Need input whilst I wait for a dry spell

Briiliant! When all else fails, then read the factory manual!

Well done Mr. Mllen, thank you.
