    Gearbox trouble

I was out yesterday and missed second gear badly, foot slipped and crunched second gear. This was because I had stood on some spilt diesel at the petrol station when filling up.
Anyway after the crunch I got her into second but it seemed a bit tough to get in, then I went to change to third and it flatly refused to go in, tried forth as well but no, managed with a bit of effort to get it back in second and limped home.

After giving the gear stick a good rattle in the neutral position it will now go in 3rd 4th 5th 6th and reverse as normal but will not in in 1st and second. If I really push it it will go in second but will then refuse to select all other gears again until I give it a good shake.
I would seem I have damage the first to second selection and I think the box is going to have to come out.
Fortunately I have a EDU form a 2.7v6tt that I bought some years ago now as mine has always had a noisy first gear.

Any thoughts, anyone had this with there box before.

Just really didn't want to have to change this right now, I fecking hate working on cars in winter!

Hello , I hope I can write my problem here . I have very similer issue ... maybe have to change gearbox too . Sometimes , when i want to change to second gear in higher RPM , i do it across teeth ( i dont know if have i transalated it properly...you know squeking sound) thats the first issue and second is , that my third gear is a little bit noisy .I want to change the gearbox , but I dont know which one i can use . I have S6Plus so I think , diesel engines has similar torque ...but i dont know if the shape of box (due to shaft) and gear ratio is use-able . I would like to have reasonable top speed , you know ...

the syncoring change unit, with the sprag are mybee gone.. its NOT so easy th opent a Q box...( there ARE a film at the tube), but i will say, its for a mecanic guy.. and the spare parts cost likeky, as a compl second hand one... so if you NOT sure uf whitch one, what gearbox DO you have, and what are in the scrapyard...
by the two upper boltholes( little to left) there are som code stamped in... its the year, and ratio....after 1991, some of the boxes had dual bolt pattern, fit ALL audi, and some vw engine...also v8 versons...
fx code; CBL 12345 or AHA 34567.. it STAMPED in... the diesel verson after 95 are strong enough for a v8... torque... and have the wider 1 gear.... the diesel verson does have another 5th, an 6 th gear.. for petrol savings...

Okay , thank you ...does the gearbox has to be ...lets say synchronized with reardiff. ratio ? I am not sure, if for example 2,5tdi A6 c4 has the same ratios as S6 has.

only the gearcode will tell this.... sme contries did have other ratio... and you will be sure the ratio, are the same in front and rear( some have said; you have torsen in senter, doesn't matter) THATS compl BULL........!!

the most commen are the 4,111 ratio, then some q versons have the 3,889... and some vw ( 4 motions) also have the 3,700... those with smallest engine and 4 pot may also have 4,560..

Okay , so i need code from the diff and code from the box , then find out ratios and finally find gearbox . Right ?

do you have the service book, or vin nr label, so you will find it there...so you dont need to lay on your belly, and have a close look by the oildrain plug....
