Was thinking about it...does tdi gearbox have oil cooling like S6 ?
Rather unique wreck, than a polished nothing.

Anyway after the crunch I got her into second but it seemed a bit tough to get in, then I went to change to third and it flatly refused to go in, tried forth as well but no, managed with a bit of effort to get it back in second and limped home.

After giving the gear stick a good rattle in the neutral position it will now go in 3rd 4th 5th 6th and reverse as normal but will not in in 1st and second. If I really push it it will go in second but will then refuse to select all other gears again until I give it a good shake.
I would seem I have damage the first to second selection and I think the box is going to have to come out.
Fortunately I have a EDU form a 2.7v6tt that I bought some years ago now as mine has always had a noisy first gear.

Any thoughts, anyone had this with there box before.

Just really didn't want to have to change this right now, I fecking hate working on cars in winter!
I had the exact thing happen to me back in August - went into 2nd with a crunch then refused to go in any other gear.

I got the 'box looked at by an Audi specialist who told me it was a bent selector fork (If I remember correctly) and who freed up the 'box for me.

Since then it would occasionally be difficult getting into 4th then the last Saturday in January it locked itself out of all gears. It's currently getting the 'box swapped for another S2 one and while we're there the clutch is replaced too because that became knackered in the incident.

My advice would be to change the gearbox as soon as you can because who knows if you'll be as lucky (sort of ) as me and have it last another 5 months.

Check the bracket under the centre console. When I bought my car, it wasn't correctly adjusted and made selecting R/1/2 difficult. Worth a try for 30 mins fingers crossing...
