I understand the benefit of this, but I don't fully understand how it works. Can someone add a bit more colour please ?

Ahh OK - I had missed the little detail & photo showing the vacuum booster/servo which essentially provides mechanical assistance for the pedal i.e less leg effort to change gear on those uprated pressure plates. Cool - I like it !

This sounds like a great idea/solution. Do you think this could be made to work for the heavy URS6 clutch pedal?

While I applaud quattro-nick's solution to *his* problem, I do have to warn him (and others) that the sign of a heavy clutch on a dual mass flywheel and OE clutch (LUK) on an AAN is that the clutch is worn. Ignoring this sign will lead to a number of different forms of metal fatigue failures, either the clutch pedal, the pedal box (especially on RHD UrSs) OR the clevis at the clutch master, as documented here: http://forums.quattroworld.com/s4s6/msgs/186276.phtml

Adding a vacuum assist to at least an UrS clutch will only mask the real issue (worn clutch) and almost guarantee the type of metal fatigue failure I am suggesting.

                Sorry.

Not sure I follow that Dave... surely that part pictured is under less stress if a vacuum servo booster is increasing the mechanical effort required to compress the pressure plate springs ???

Be advised the servo was added to counteract the increased pedal effort required by the sachs racing clutch - it wasn't to mask a fault.

To follow up on my clutch pedal failure comments, I can't tell from your photos where this vacuum boost is located. I was thinking you were using it attached to the pedal but now I am not sure. Could you post up a "Vacuum Assisted Clutch for Dummies" sketch diagram so I can figure it out better?

Ref the above comments.....my clutch is new and was installed less than 5,000 miles ago.Biting point is perfect it's just that you need a stronger left leg than is usual on any other Audi i have driven but have been told that is a trait on the URS6 and i presume URS4 too.Would that be true of the breed?

@ urs4boy: the vacuumbooster is mounted with a bracket on the firewall in the engineroom
inside the car the clutchpedal is connected with the rod from the booster
the masterclutchpump is directly mounted on the booster
                          p.s.no dualmass flywheel for me,i use a 3b flywheel
you can feel the difference very good, with no vacuum from the engine is the pedal hard wen you step on it,if you start the engine and you have vacuum the pedal feels a lot lighter

actually this is exact the same principle as a brake vacuumbooster

Great Nick! my car has a fairly light clutch pedal but it's still pain to be driving in the almost highest traffic in the world lol.
i have a plan to do this mods on C4 for long time too.
