    Diff Lock Experimenting

I removed the white/blue wire and fit an on/off switch but the diff still disengages after the 15mph mark. removed the vacuum line and blocked off and it seems to remain engaged.

I want to try it out with the diff permanently locked to see the handling differences so will give it a go tomorrow in a mini circuit with road tires.

my experience in the snow (with a typ85) is that the car becomes rather tail happy with the rear diff locked, fun but unstable and more difficult to handle

Is it possible to keep an original setup, but make it so occasionally you can permanently turn in on?

i like tail happy, used to enjoy it in my younger Ford Escort days, rear wheel front assisted is what I'm after. I currently run a TT with 50/50 haldex initial under steer and eventual 4 wheel drift when you push a bit hard but I want to try the S2 with more rear traction bias just for the fun of it

Rear diff permanently locked. If you try and go round corners with the diff locked then the tyres will have to scrub, you will probably feel it judder and it will try to drive straight on unless the road is very slippery. On a dry road it will be difficult to corner. The back of the car will be far more likely to slide as you're effectively forcing it to break traction. The tyres the CVs and splines and the diff will wear much faster than normal.

This is a track/hill climb car and it boils down to driving preferences, I much rather have the back end sliding which can be corrected that plough into a corner/chicane understeering forcing lift off. We have driven rear wheel drive cars with a welded diff in our local hillclimbs with success, now it's time to try out the S2, been done before

With the rear diff locked if you drive very "aggressively", eg drifting or how you would drive a car on the loose it is very stable and predictable. If you try and drive "normally" it is horrible.

If you like a welded diff then you will love it, and it has the benefit you can just switch it off the save tyres/transmission/mounts etc.

If you dont flick it first, it can push you straight on, which can be scary!
