Fair enough, you're going to have some fun then.

If you like a welded diff then you will love it, and it has the benefit you can just switch it off the save tyres/transmission/mounts etc.

If you dont flick it first, it can push you straight on, which can be scary!
thanks for the heads up we're heading over to the circuit in an hour or so, which is basically a section of our airport parking area with some tyres and cones to go round so it's the perfect place to throw the car around

So basically everyone agrees here that the blue/white wire needs to be spliced from the controller side and we're left with the diff lock switch as a permanent on/off switch

Cutting the wire is a very crude solution. A better, more reversible, solution would be to remove the wire and the pin from the connector and tape up the pin end of the wire and move aside. That way you could always easily go back to the OE situation.

I haven't actually cut the wire yet, we managed to get the diff locked by pulling the vacuum hose out but will probably will be pulling out the wire from the pin connector as URS4Boy suggested. Video is 88mb for 2 mins so can't upload it directly here, trying to zip it, but will probably post on youtube and post the link.

Got this after it uploaded a compressed zip file

that would be like going back to 2 wheel drive after having a quattro... never go back

change the rear anti rollbar to a really thick one.. 22 or 26mm..( use a front antirollbar in the rear, and you will have a tailhappy car..!!

I guess you've never driven a locked rear diff in an Audi quattro at speed in slippery conditions then. Unless you have mad driving skills, you will soon be driving backwards into a wall.

                          But hey....

The point of this is to see if we manage to set up the car for fast cornering chicanes, both rear wheels engaged and the front doing their thing. We create 11 to 13 mt three and four point chicanes with cones in our local hill climbs and if you can throw and upset the car on entry the nose is already pointed in the right direction, no understeer on entry, slight oversteer mid and through exit It's also called fun

Must just have mad skills :-D I did find of your not fully committed to puttimg you foot down it does push you on, but for wet roundabouts and slippery bends, a good clutch kick and Rev limiter action gets some pretty impressive full opposite lock drifting.

I might wire a switch, so when I want to have fun, flick the switch, but normally it's like OE solution!
