  • Gear Stick Balljoint

The plastic ball and socket joint inside the cabin went kaput this morning, so what's the best thing to do? replace or upgrade to a short shift?

I know there are upgraded bushes for the gearbox end too... :mischeif:

I think somebody found a golf one fits and makes a short shifter for £35 or so?

DeS was selling ones as well iirc.

I recently replaced mine with standard bits from Audi Tradition. Cost around £70 in total but made a noticeable difference (doddle to fit too). Guess it all depends on whether you like the standard shift or not. I'm always a little cautious about short shifts as I think they shorten the life expectancy of the box as well as the shift itself. Horses for courses though...

On my 3b the short shift was best mod I did. However it does not need any messing with to fit unlike 6 speed.
it is just mk1 golf bits so cost circa 30 quid

This is what you need for the golf shifter. And you need to make a plate to go under it to stop the plastic from dropping out. I have one in my car and it works very well! http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item...335145&alt=web

How does the JHM shifter work with 6 speed and reverse? Is it worth the £££?
