  • AEL FrontWD gearbox issue

    Hi,

I have a C4 AEL front wheel drive with an issue on the gearbox.

It makes noise like worn toothgears.

My question is: could I swap a 4wd gearbox, and leave the shaft fitment run free under the car?

I guess 4wd gearboxes much easier to find.

you may use any audi fwd tranny.. they will fit too.. you may use the q tranny too.. but its easyer to fit the right one...

In short, no. It would be like trying to use a fwd gear box with only one drifeshaft connected. Except you'd get 50% of the touque transmitted, and a very hot torsen diff. Has it got any oil in it?

fwd with quattro gearbox would just not work. Think how torsen would work if there is 0 torque on propshaft output and you will get the idea. Get the gearbox/diff fixed or buy new fwd box, simple as that.

ok thanks, I'll start opening the gearbox and see what's wrong in details.
          Then, see what to do.
