  • Hello

    Hello,
my name is Joe, I have a mk1 golf gti and a mk2 golf syncro. I am looking for an s2 estate but willing to wait for the right one, I need to understand what to look for as well, slowly building up my knowledge! I am in Herefordshire/Powys.
    thanks
    Joe

I can get some posted in the next few days. Mk1 is Mars red and standard, syncro is white ( alpine white I think) and I have fallen out of love with it a little since getting the mk1, it will need a bit of bodywork soon.

        Joe

There's a Ruby Red Avant in the for sale section at the moment, nice car but it's in Scotland so a fair journey to view.
There might be another one too..?

I just recently sold my Avant to Faz on here.
Great cars and yes, lots of knowledge here.

Hi Joe looking forward to seeing a photo of your mk1 Golf As mentioned the Ruby red S2 Avant for sale is Michaels up in Scotland and it’s a bloody nice example lots of history and well known on the forum. I have also seen this in the flesh and I can tell you it’s a goodun!! If your serious about an S2 then travelling up to Scotland shouldn’t be an issue.

Yes, thanks i have seen the red one but realistically you need to see it in the flesh and Dundee is too far. I have seen a few advertised over the last few months and they tend to be chipped and modded in some way, I'm more up for something as standard as possible, in no rush.

Great, good to know that, thanks. I work near Talybont on usk and the garage there is really good for vw/audi, geraint has been working on beetles, golf's etc for a long long time.

If it's just a Stage 1 chip (sometimes known as a Homefry on here) it's very easy to return the car to standard. The Stage 1 makes the car a little more lively and can give slightly better fuel economy due to the ignition advance. No down sides really but of course it's personal choice. Should you ever need a stock chipset send me a PM.

OK, thanks that's good to know. It seems like people upgrade the brakes as well, are the standard s2 ones no good?

Standard S2 brakes are not brilliant.
I do like the MK1 golf
A homefries chip is nothing to be worried about. They are very good and don't stress the engines much more than stock. You have to remember that the standard chip was designed to run on various grades of fuel found around the world and a good chip is making the most of our good high octane petrol.

Missed this post as I've had a stinking cold for a few days and been in bed like a real man...

Anyway, I'm also in Powys and very close to Herefordshire... I think I actually recognise where you live, I shan't say where I think you are exactly for your privacy, but are you above Glasbury?

If you are where I think you are then I'm only a couple of miles away in Boughrood and your welcome to call around for a cuppa, I've been working on these cars for years and can probably answer any questions you have... I'd also be happy to look at any car you maybe interested in, most car's that come onto the market I know in some capacity as there aren't many about.

I like my VW's as well BTW. Got a G60 MK2 and a LHD Corrado G60, though both of these will eventually be sold to fund restoring my RS2.

Edit, just checked the pic's again I'm 99% sure I know where you are, I've once or twice used the foot path that runs past your property and clocked the white Golf and Discovery... Lovely spot, nice and out of the way, a chap next door to you owns an RS2 but he's quite reclusive so you probably haven't seen it as it's not there currently.

I also know of a very, very well sorted car locally that could be for sale at the right price, it will be expensive but is pretty much faultless and very high spec. Though I'm not 100% sure the owner has made his mind up regarding parting with it as yet.
