I dont remember Walter Rohl asking for a pipe and slippers
No but has anyone seen his very fetching cardigan in the Quattro story DVD when talking about Pike's Peak?
Jamo, is this the phoney war where nothing actually happens for a bit... the Avant invasion of blighty seems to have gone very quiet, perhaps you're going to attack out of the sun? Where's Douggie Bader with his 600bhp coupe to lead us all to victory over the coffin-carrying oppressors?

1994 ABY Coupe - Projekt Alpinweiss
OK, we'll start with the question that nails every slipper owner on here.....
What was the car that started it all...the UR, now was that a Coupe or a coffin carrier?
or how about these.....
Never seen an S1 Avant, or a Pikes Peak Hearse.
I dont remember Walter Rohl asking for a pipe and slippers
When was the last time a coffin carrier won the WRC?
I never Saw Michelle Mouton complain about rear leg room
Did the original Stig ever try to put his 2 dogs in the back of his rally car?
I rest my case, now get back to your clipboard Blakey

It's called "evolution" Si
Performance Audi's used to be coupes then they thought of the future and found out that station wagons had better potential !
Think of it :
- Better weight distribution as Audi puts their engines on the front bumper.
- Room to put more than just the Mrs.'s vanity case and then putting all the rest on the rear bench.
- 4 seats equals 4 doors
- B5 rear suspension layout for better handling is a plus !
- No chance of being mistaken for a boy racer due to that big spoiler ...
- Speaking of which, that means the aerodynamics of the Avant shape is better as it doesn't need a spoiler to keep the rear end from taking off at high speeds.
- For those who do own dogs, it doesn't mean having to chose between owning a K9 or a performance car.
- No water ingress on rainy days.
- And best of all having the best "sleeper" effect and being able to often see gray haired 50year olds in their sport coupes having a fit of frenzied wrath when they get overtaken and distanced by what they consider a lowered people carrier ! That only makes the S2 Avant, the Ultimate Quattro to own IMO !
As for the R8.........look at the bl**dy length of the wheelbase. Its an avant alright with the rear doors disguised.
Having owned both I will say that I would prefer............................................ .................................................. .................................................. ...............one of each !!
As a newbie, I have noticed that there is a hell of a lot of S2 owners 'upgrading' to RS2 parts and wheels etc........ I think both have a right to be best??!!

congrats mate! is it the best car you ever owned or what? just bought my first avant as well and love it. Check the gearbox and diff oil levels, i didnt and now need a new 6 speed box (ouch!) Apart from that i dont think much goes wrong with these, they seem to be pretty solid cars.
No, but I thought all Audi fans knew this.... it was going to be, but Porsche were scared that it would kill sales of the 911, the Coupe is THAT good.

Elvis was a fine performer and he evolved. He became overweight, slow and unfashionable.
Some striking similarities there I think you'll find
Indeed Ben, I completely agree with you. First there was young Elvis (we'll call him UR) who was slim lean and blew the competition apart. Then there was grown up Elvis (We'll call him Coupe) who was a more refined version of his brash teenage years. Finally there was Vegas Elvis (shall we call him Avant) who was fatter (the Avant is longer and taller and therefore less sporty) slower (the Avant is slower than both the ABY and 3B Coupes for both 0-60 and top end) and finally unfashionable (well, we are comparing a sports Coupe to a Hearse here, need I say more?)

True, I have only ever manage 2 bikes, or a cooker or a childs bed and push chair in my Coupe.....You have to remember, that the seats fold in a Coupe as well, so the only bit we are missing is that rarely used and damn ugly top corner bit Tell me, what do you Hearse owners keep in that bit other than hot air?

Hey, the missus is damn luckly to get a go in my S2, let alone any back-seat drivers!

So why do all the Avant owner keep asking were to buy roof spoilers from? At least our spoilers are factory fit, not ricer specials

No matey, that would be a Pikes Peak S1 or even more likely, the 1000BHP mid-engined group S sport quattro that Audi were developing when group B was banned....oh and it was a 2 seater Coupe too.

hah. gotta love the eternal rift that divides the forum... having been on both sides, i have to say that the ideal drive for me would be a UR and an Avant. The purest of the breed, and then the daily sleeper. The dark force pulls you in a different direction, and those that have never experienced it of course do not realise how much better it is, and thus fight against it with all their might as they percieve it as wrong.
Which leads me to this - the 3B is undeniably the Coupe of choice. If you want a bit more of a smooth, refined ride, in a truly understated car, go the whole way and take the avant. If you are tempted by the raw and nimble UR but feel the need to keep your leather seats and updated interior then the 3B offers it all. The ABY Coupe has no place in this world

I love this playful banter !
So calling reinforcements : Jamo, MattS2, Anders, PapVas, Breitling, Coxy, Bazookachicken, Igrees, BlownVR6, KingoS2 and all Avant and RS2 owners... We've waited for this day to come and now it is our time to rise and shine ! Assume battlestations and fire at will !
This is not a drill ! I repeat... THIS IS NOT A DRILL !

lol, this thread have gone way off topic
But, I think there is more avrege power on the slippers side than the coupè' side.
