Thanks for the head's up Amanda. That one has one of the things I don't want to get into dealing with - bodywork!

I'm also suspicious about the lack of pictures; not surprised he hasn't had any bids yet really.

Lovely looking coupe you have there!

    Guys,

Wow, thanks for all that info! My disposable income isn't huge right now, so it would really depends on what comes up and at what price... I have a few options right now, mostly centred around either an S2 coupe which needs a slight rebuild, or possibly just buying an S2 coupe (I'm not an Avant fan) which is the right price and condition, but maybe needs a little TLC... However, if neither of these pay off, I might be tempted to find a nice B4 80Q V6 and sourcing an S2 Avant to gradually build an S2 sedan as funds allow. In the meantime I always have a lovely 2WD 80 V6 to keep me fairly happy. When you specify the ABY loom, is that because it's what would come on the Avant, or would the 3B wiring not be compatible? Dunno how easy it would be to reposition all the rads, loom brackets in the engine bay, etc. Would you need to change any of the fuel delivery (e.g. fuel pump), or would the V6 cope with the S2 engine?

Paul, you brought up a question I was going to ask. I was searching on E*KA last night seeing which parts were common. I came across the propshaft, but the parts catalogue was vague as it sometimes is. It was showing three part numbers for the ACOQ, only one of which was labelled with a model: ABY. The others had no model designation, only one was labelled 60mm. I was comparing this with a 1990 80Q, because I was actually trying to cross-reference to see if any of the Blauparts propshaft rebuild kits would be OK for an S2 Coupe. The 80Q showed the same to (non-ABY labelled) parts. But this was inconclusive... Anyone know if the S2 3B shares a propshaft with any of the other Audi group cars - coupe/80/90/S4, etc. of the same period? It would be nice to do a driveshaft/centre bearing rebuild and know it was done...

    Cheers,
    James

Gonna have to look in my engine bay Jason... Maybe there is one mount on the chassis. I see that the family album lists different bodyshells for the 16V, V6 and S2 engined B4 80Q so that is consistent.

Guess I have missed a chapter having never owned a V6 engined 80Q before. They are desperately rare on this island.

I'm not sure if you'd need to weld in engine mounts. I thought, from memory, that the engine iwas mounted to the subframe in the B4(?), in which case you'd just switch in a front subframe from a non-Q 5-cyl, the front end of the Q being otherwise the same and all?

    Cheers,
    James
Engine is mounted to the chassis on the I5 James .
I looked into to doing this with my last v6 80q. Weld in the engine mounts, bung in the ABY, if using the existing 5 speed (ratios would be way off though), then remove dual mass flywheel and spacer and fit 3B flywheel, or use the CGR six speed and get either the ABY Avant propshaft or have the existing one shortened. You'd have to swap in the S2 avants rear diff too.
Then is was a case of switching hubs all round from the S2 avant, bolt on the S2 front bumper and S2 avant rear bumper (it fits the saloon) and all that lovely wiring/cooling/battery relocation etc etc.
A 90 can be at least made to look the part, but you are missing as you say, the better B4 rear suspension.

Not enough time/money/knowledge and space put me off the idea. I've saved the money I was going to use on this idea and channeled it into an RS2 fund. "If" I ever find one that presses all the right buttons

Oh, don't be put off by green, Emerald green is a lovely colour. With it being a pearl it can really catch the eye. Not a big fan of ragussa, though when its polished up like in Steves pic above, it too can look very nice.

Nice vid, the V8 looks and sound nice too

    Jas..

This is almost a complete running gear transplant of course, but with a rough bodied S2 Avant donor and a B4 quattro shell in sweet condition you could build it. Dangit I'd do it myself if I could. Where's all that disposable income I used to have

Oh and the front subframe on B4 quattro saloon is same as avant (and RS2)

Well the old family album shows the S2 rear diff is unique to that engine, but never worry if you have an S2 Avant donor cos all the B4 quattro rear diffs have common fitment on the rear subframe. Thats easy.

ABY has different propshaft from other B4 quattro sedan - but its the same propshaft as fitted to S2 and RS2 Avant.

Yep - I think the engine mounts follow with the subframe... Its definitely doable... PLumbling and electrics are easy compared to horrible things like bodywork modifications for someone like me... The only common item would be the cabin heater with regards plumbing. And electrics would just need the ABY looms grafted into the right places after any V6 engine wiring is removed.

Good question on the rear diff and propshaft items - need to check on that but its not a big deal... The best donor vehicle for this would actually be a rough S2 Avant - NOT the Coupe as the rear diff housing & propshafts are different lengths on the Coupe.
