Yep, I know James (terrybullwon), top guy. He uses the same mechanic/ workshop as me and we often bump into each other out there. I've already picked his brains about the S2 project and he's very helpful as usual... and yes, I'm sure he'll pop into this thread soon and take the p*ss!!

    Paul,

Yep, you're right. I'd definitely be interested in some of those, but probably not suspension and bush upgrades. I live in a country area, and the roads are 'special'. It's lumpy enough already without stiffening things up even more. For this reason also I'd only ever go to 17" rims with a 45 or greater profile tyre - otherwise there's just not enough sidewall to absorb the bumps and avoid possible rim/ fillings/ teeth damage!

But yeah, subtle upgrades it might be. I want to find a decent basic car and get it up together first though...

Well, they say a picture paints a thousand words, and when you put it that way... Yep, pretty nice even in green.

To be honest, I probably can't afford a total minter. Looking for something where the basics are OK and that I can then do normal work, e.g. suspension, bushes, mounts, even an engine rebuild as long as the major mechanicals are all-right (this would be a problem just because of the price of spares for major things, e.g. crankshaft is about £1000, gearbox double that?), etc if you know what I mean.

If I could pick up something for about £3500 or thereabouts where the basics are there and I can spend money gradually working my way through the car doing all needed bits I'd be a happy bunny.

I want it as a project car of sorts, it might sound silly, but if you strip down and rebuild bits yourself (with the help, in this case, of a full workshop and very experienced mechanic), you know it's been done, and done well. I just don't want to get into paintwork/interior problems as they're a pain and very expensive to sort...

This actually came about because I was about to do the same with my A80Q and then it turns out the bodywork would need a complete respray to make it as I want it. That prompted the desision to finally go for an S2 which I've been thinking about for ages. Getting an S2 back to mint is an investment, which on an 80 it isn't. Plus the S2 is a bit special, and goes like a rocket...

    Cheers,
    James

A minter is damn near impossible to find now... Though that pic from Steve is mighty proof how good the green can look.

The subtle mods are things like brakes, dampers, ARBs, HIDs, hoses and software. An RS2 airbox and intercooler are worthwhile upgrades also and look like they grew there in the factory. A quality made stainless exhaust can also be worthwhile as most original systems will be past their best. Mine is 13yr old original system - it looks horrible but still holds together.

Theres other invisible mods which are useful, but take a lot of work getting to - like h/d engine & tranny mounts, h/d suspension bushes and mounts, LSD internals for the rear diff, single mass flywheels to name a few.

You can be as mild or as wild with your S2 as you want to...

    Welcome.

Nothing wrong with green! \/ \/ \/ \/ (Not mine)

    Good luck finding a minter.

    Cheers,

    Steve.

Oh, you're the Samco hose guy... I've heard of you (all good)! I'll almost certainly fit a nice set of those - that's not modifying, it's optimizing... can you get them in black though - looks closer to original...

    Hi Paul,

Cheers for the welcome! Glad to hear I'm not alone in the green-thing. Honestly though I think like you I could ultimately live with it if the rest of the car was right. Are they really that hard to come by? I suppose if I found one, I could ultimately have a full respray colour change if I won the lottery...

Haha, what are these 'subtle' mods? How subtle are we talking here? :mischeif:

Hey good luck with the search for a non Green S2. Mine is boring emerald green also - looks fine when polished up (once a year) but a bit doooor rest of the time.

Good luck staying away from the dark side as well. There are some pretty subtle mods that transform the S2 dynamics without it looking and driving like a Maxy P special. No doubt you will discover those along the way and have temptation thrown in your face

    Looking for an S2...

    Hi All

Old Audi hand, some of you might know me from Audifans where I'm James with the V6 A80s. If you do, you'll know that I've been considering trading in my two beloved V6es and devoting my energies to an S2.

Seems the prob at the moment is finding something!

Things I'd like not to have to sort: bodywork and interior. As long as the other basic mechanicals are OK (no major engine/gearbox/driveline probs) I have full access to a good workshop so any of the 'normal' mechanical issues can be sorted OK.

I'd really, really like a standard car that hasn't been modified. My intention would be to keep it that way and get it back to mint. The only mod I'd consider is a front brake upgrade as I understand from a few friends and a family member who own/owned them that they benefit from it.

While I'm in wishful-thinking land, I'd also like World Peace, a 30" waist again, and Jessica Alba to express undying affection for me...

Why did so many people order these cars green from new? Seems hard to find anything else. I'm normally not a green fan, and ideally wouldn't get a green one, but... the S2s look so damn good they almost MAKE green cool... that said a non-green would be nice...

Anyway, just wanted to say hi, cuz I'll probably be around quite a bit now learning what's what until I find a decent project S2 to play with!

Any heads-ups for decent sounding S2s, or buying advice appreciated, or if anyone's thinking of selling...

    Cheers,
    James
