    Just got my S2

Hello, After quite a while of looking I've finally got my S2 Avant. it is a 94 ABY. So I know what I've got can put down a few of things that I've noticed to see if they are normal.
Oil pressure is 5 bar when driving and 2 bar at idle. Volts driving is 14V, Oil temp on a long run is just under 90 deg C. I'm a bit concerned because the engine temp even on a motorway run has not got over 60 deg C. On a long run I get 25 mpg. Can't think of anything else to add but I have only had it a day.
    Cheers,
    Colin

    enjoy!!

mine didnt get too warm either when coming back, might be thermostat not working properly! havent really driven it much since so cant tell you much lol. Oil pressure sounds little high at idle maybe? could be wrong so dont worry! 25mph is average, dont expect great economy haha.

Any plans for it? if you hadnt before, after joining this forum you will!

oil pressure looks normal it should start at 5 bar when started from cold, and once warm should idle at about 2 and be back up to 5 whilst driving

Everything seems normal to me. During the cold weather if you are doing long drives without much town driving, stick a bit of cardboard in front of the radiator. It will make the car run a bit warmer We need some pics

My UrS6 gets warm (~90C) within about 10 minutes of town driving even if it is -10C outside.
It not getting up to temp on a longer run is definitely not normal, and "fixing" it with cardboard is silly.

My Rs2 barely moves of 60 when normal driving - cooling fan cuts in just above 90.
2 bar idle - just under 5 for normal driving.
Oil temp hardley moves also when normal driving.

On the engine temp issue, you might have a thermostat that is stuck open. Have a read on this AAN UrS4/S6 post (below) for hints. Follow the link to the Climate Control Diagnostics. CH.51 will help you to determine whether your thermostat is stuck open or it is just the sender that the water temp gauge uses:

Before replacing my thermostat my S2 didn't get higher than 60/70 degrees only got up to 90 when driving in town.

After replacing the thermostat it's allways at 90 no mather what i do.
I don't drive the car in the winter but in summer it took less than to 10 mins to get to 90 degrees.

who said putting cardboard in front of the radiator would fix it? i didnt. with town driving its bound to get warm, there is no wind chill like when you are on the motorway.

I have no problem with it getting to 90 degrees on the motorway at -25 degrees celsius.
Do you drive in colder weather than me? Don't think UK even gets those kind of temperatures.

Seriously, if you have issues with it not getting up to temp, and you're not on the northpole, check your thermostat.
I can guarantee you, it's not normal.

My theory is that continual heat cycling over many years weakens the spring of the thermostat and they open early, mine also only gets up to 70 deg C so I have a new one here waiting to go in when I have the time.

A new thermostat will bring it up to 90 quickly and keep it there. If you're on the motorway with windchill it shouldn't make any differnence, it should still be close to 90. If not, you're just throwing fuel away. Thermostat is cheap even if it's a bit of a job to get at it.
