    welcome
IMHO you could spend thousands trying to make a quattro into somethign its not going the RWD route. older quattros have poor chassis and balance but make up for it with tons of grip and strong engines that sound awesome, so taking away one of their unique strengths (quattro) you will have a **** car IMHO. If you like a lairy tail happy car you're probably behind the wring steering wheel!

Easy to add a stiff rear ARB as Andy said mated to a V8 Torsen rear diff is a really good upgrade, or a plated diff is doable for more money. Locked rear diff does the business but no the most pregress drive in the world!

prop, shafts & stock open diffs are pretty indestrucable, although proper abuse with 500+ I'm sure you will break something!

So it happened. It took all of 20 mins to convert to RWD. It will take a further 20 to go back to 4wd in winter.

Also made the rear diff lock light work, which is nice.

It drifts in 2nd even in the dry,the KV engine is nice and torquey.
I have been considering a 7a n/a engine with cams and flywheel, but probably will have a turbo'd lump. Im not after outright speed around a track with this car,my goal is to be able to light up the rear tyres at motorway speeds. That is all.
Yes its silly, but it should be fun,and probably dangerous.

And a quid to anyone who knows the fabric and pattern I made a gear surround from.A clue to my locale.

That's a lovley 80, I've got a 90Q of the same era. Was you rear wheel drive conversion as simple as removing the front drive shafts and locking the rear diff? Might have to do that to mine just of curiosity. The drive train in these old things are very tough by the way, almost certainly stronger than a 3B S2.

If you can lock the centre diff then yes,all you need to do is remove the driveshafts.
Both can be taken off without un-doing the ball joints.
I put a little rubber spacer on the diff lock switch in the car,so I dont accidently push it all the way in and unlock the centre diff.

You dont need to lock the rear diff to drive about,in fact thats the beauty of it. You can lock and unlock the rear diff on the move, perfect for daily driving and drifting.

Nice anti-theft option: just live the centre diff unlocked. It would take a while for anyone to figure out what's wrong

Hi, I've seen this on NL and like what you're doing with it. Would be great with a rev'y 7A.

Thanks. A revvy 7a is tempting definately, with high comp, cams, manifold, throttle bodies, lightened, balanced ect. Especially as the car is going to be more of a road car. I would like to do a v-banded turbo set up, but not sure i can be bothered with the expence of it,or the annoyance of warming up a forged turbo engine. I had a forged bigger turbod evo with a paddle clutch and while it was soo good on track(which was only a few times a year) it was such a pain to drive about on the road.
It also seems way easier to get a 7a

So Ive got a 3B. well sort of 2. a complete one with a hole im the block caused by a bent rod, and a complete bottom end.
Ive got a complete gasket set and once ive got some rods the bottom end will go off to the machine shop for hone-skim and new rings on the stock pistons, and new bearings.
Aparrently the head was refreshed not long ago, which is nice if that is so.
I will need some bits and bobs, like a r-h engine mount, and a throttle body. possibly an engine loom though not sure on that if the ecu i use comes with loom or not.

Is it worth keeping the distributor if its got rods in,or is it just better to go for 5x coils as it will have an aftermarket ecu anyhow.

If you are going aftermarket opt for coils right away.
