Hello everyone! Thought it was time I said hi to you all, been a busy time recently.Firstly I would like to thank you all for the masses of information shared on here, information which enables us lesser skilled mortals to run this fairly complicated, getting on in years now, superb car. So a big
to you all and lets keep on enjoying our
I fancied an S2 years back, but ended up being talked into a TVR, great car and had lot's of fun in it, but now my situation has changed. From tiv waiting ready in garage, v tec estate as the daily driver, 2 dogs, nice house, partner,,,,,to,,,,,Tiv with no garage, my old house which I have sat on (Building site), 1 dog (the big one out of the two) and no job and partner, but please, I'm not after a sympahy vote, because it has been all my decision, just putting you in the picture.
So the tiv was sold and ended up buying a green, 1995 Avant with 117000mls on it cheap. My family and friends asked me if this was a sensible buy (to be honest they think I am crazy, not sure why
) to which I reply, yes of course, Beau has all the room he needs in the back and it is fast, cant get anymore pratical than that
This life too short to be messing around with poxy french diesel motors, in my humble oppinion. So with a bit of luck, and maybe from the help of some very nice people, I shall prove them all wrong and will enjoy my ownership of this great car. Even with no job and a house to renovate.
The car was cheap due to some LIFE scars on her (I have these too and think you havent lived much if you dont have scars to tell a tale), doesnt bother me that much for now, the car is solid as a rock underneath, and with a bit of luck will be able to find dark green o/s rear door, tailgate and n/s front wing reasonably cheap at some point. Engine and gearbox are good, so thats what matters to me for now.
I have a lot of things to do on her, which have showed up in the last month of running, so have started my collection of parts to bring her back to life.
HD Strut top mounts (thanks for the fantastic service Pete)
4 CV Boots for front (as above)
Front and Rear arb links
Front Shocks
Set of low mileage RS2 springs (£40 of fleabay
)(to replace the shocking yellow lowering springs fitted)2 Track rod ends
Few more bits and pieces to find yet, but soon will have a day, strip all suspension off, free everything up then after refit can have a full geo set up done. I'm sure the transformation will be bringing a huge
I am currently running on mechanical boost for most of the time, which I know from reading hours and hours of posts could be absolutely anything, but am happy to run low boost while the car feels as bad as it does (mainly tracking and tyres) and look at the running issues at a later date when the car is handling safely.
It has got "Big Brakes" so I was told, porsche monobloks? I will take some pictures when I strip the front end down, I need to ask people which discs I need to get and from where (slight brake judder from 70 cough cough mph), as these will need replacing at somepoint. I must say that I have driven and owned many a driving car, and never in all my time (Rover P6 3500S included) have I come across a car that feels sooooooo heavy to slow down
. Like the rediculous (for me anyway) driving position, auto drivers window and a few other things, I'm sure I will just adapt my body and mind to compensate. I'm hoping the painfully slow gearchange will be rectified with the change of gear oil to fully synthetic
.Looking forward to the new tyres and geometry set up, thinking of going up to 225/50/16 tyres, as my budget wont go to new alloys. Thinking a slightly larger footprint might help understeer a little (rear anti roll bar will have to wait), but any feedback of this fitment would be greatly appreciated.
For now me and Beau are happy with it, and hope to get to some meets and stuff and meet some of you guys, this really is a fantastic forum and have spent many hours reading posts, 5 hours on one post
and 4 on another, some really good project threads, and hats off to some of you guys for your patience and passion, admirable indeed.Ok better get out with mutt, bye for now, Al & Beau (woof woof).
hope you av deep pockets the saying ( you know she,s worth it ) well you are about to find out. at least your in the right place to get all the help you need great cars. and great fun. enjoy.

. And thanks for the welcome.
Hehe, kidding, thanks for the info. The main thing I find about the driving position is the pedals, clutch is high, not the biting point the actual pedal, and there is not enough room between the pedal and rest, and when I do squeeze my foot down to the rest, my leg is then at some strange angle, but still it is better than the tvr, and something I'm sure I will get used to. Love the car up to now, just what I like, a sleeper.
