Hope you get the problems sorted or just get a 30V engine out of an A4 and fit that in place [/QUOTE]

Good shout, I will need to get a gauge though - any ideas?

No blue smoke or oily residue on the pipes... But I've got an oil leak on the pump housing, which might cause an issue....

Now a 30v swap sounds like fun... but I'd imagine there is some fabrication needed, and this was supposed to be my 'get to work' car!

And I know it's an Audi forum, but I can't resist - my other project:

Put that much effort into your Audi and you'll have a cracker

Too true, unfortunately the coupe was only intended to be a daily driver and was never destined for greatness... It's taken too much of my time already!

Took the oil pressure relief valve out of the pump, cleaned and refitted and tightened the pump to block bolts a touch, and the pressure problems have gotten even worse! Oil leak from the pump has gone though and it's bone dry outside! ??? Very strange... I can only conclude that the engine has spun a bearing or something, or has a clogged oil passageway as I've checked everything!. I know the pressure is bad because I can hear the lifters ticking on first start, and going away when the oil gauge shows pressure, and now they are starting to tick at hot idle as the pressure drops below 0.5 bar... either way because I rely on it daily it might have to go , but I'm definitely getting another CQ...only time will tell what!

Just did the oil filter again, but noticed something...

I've done 3 filters in quick succession, a halfords one, an 'oe' quality one (I believe FRAM?), and now I'm on a k&N... I had a look at the one that came off and can't identify an anti-drain back valve???

Fingers crossed this is the solution... If it is I'm very surprised that it is possible for any company to sell an oil filter that is so grossly out of spec! And I guess part of me has to take the blame for not just going to Audi from the start.

Hopefully there hasn't been any long term damage, but the slightly lower idle oil pressure makes me worry that I've partially spun a bearing....

only use a genuine oil filter from a dealer. they are not so expensive and do have an internal pressure valve. also, their synta silver oil is good. engine might use a bit of oil which is normal a half decent semi-synthetic for topping up should be ok.
if car is working. then best thing to do with it is decent fuel and drive it!
bit of tappet noise to begin with shouldn't cause to much problem.

wish i could drive mine. one day i will get my gearbox fixed...

Totally mate, the only thing that hasn't been replaced is the pump itself... I guess this is an engine swap job when I can get round to it... or one for someone else.

I have always found Halfords filters to be of a very good quality - The last one I fitted was made by Bosch

Well, the 'solution' to my little problem has been fairly simple...

...I'm now an S2 owner! Picked up a cracking 3B coupe last week. Good times!
